Dozens of new restaurants, breweries, distilleries and coffee shops have opened in Detroit in the past couple years — from laid-back gastro pubs and fancy bistros to homespun burger bars and eclectic vegan venues. Here’s a rundown of some of the city's up-and-coming hot spots and newest now-open places to eat, drink and just hang out.
18 W. Adams, downtown
Vegetarian-friendly dishes, sharable plates and a bicycle-centric culture — décor, pumps and parking — make up this innovative restaurant and bar.
2520 Michigan Ave., Corktown
This Thai-inspired restaurant began as a food truck before opening restaurants in Ann Arbor and now Corktown.
5517 Michigan Ave., southwest Detroit
La Noria is a Mexican-style casual eatery that will offer wood-fired oven pizzas, tacos, tortas and more.
Located near Brush Park, Midtown
Plans call for a meat-centric menu and a full cocktail program. Additionally, the partners are launching a pop-up series called Ghost Tour, featuring dishes sourced from different animals.
6500 Woodward Ave, downtown
Many describe Atomic as chef-driven with inexpensive ($8 to $10) soul food-style meals such as chicken and waffles and chicken and biscuits.
Brix Wine & Charcuterie Boutique
7981 Kercheval Ave, West Village
A new wine bar and bottle shop will take over a space in a rehabbed bank building. Opens this spring.
The Caucus Club
Congress Street, downtown
The plan is to offer lighter fare at lunch, such as brunch-style menu items, sandwiches and salads, along with some fish and meat-style entrees. Expected to open in May.
Lady of the House
Near 14th and Perry, North Corktown
This restaurant will offer rustic food. Scheduled to open as early as July.
Lafayette Kitchen and Diner
1551 W. Lafayette Blvd., Corktown
Lafayette's menu will utilize a large amount of local produce and feature plenty of vegan and gluten-free options with a reasonably priced session cocktail program. Plan is to open by June.
Hearth and Soul Café
Corner of Woodward and State, downtown
The venue will offer Avalon breads and pastries, as well as breakfast, lunch and dinner. There will also be vegan items such as salads and soups among the offerings. It is expected to open in the summer.
Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken
4101 Third St., Cass Corridor
Besides fried chicken, Gus's will serve southern-style sides like macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, greens, beans and potato salad. They plan to open in June.
420 Peterboro St., Cass Corridor
Diners can expect cocktails, microbrews and a full dose of steampunk decor from this Asian-fusion restaurant.
Sweet Lorraine’s Mac n’ Brewz
Wayne State, Midtown
Mac n’ Brewz will offer soups, salads, sandwich wraps and 14 kinds of macaroni and cheese from the original menu. It will feature 12 Detroit- and Michigan-made beers on tap, along with bottled brews, organic coffee by Branding World Beat, local herbal teas and Northwoods Soda made with cane sugar.
Grand Cirque Brasserie
David Whitney Building near Grand Circus Park
French-American style restaurant, the menu will include short rib bourguignon, steak au poivre, lamb cassoulet, swordfish provence, quiche lorraine, duck à l'orange and chicken paillard. Grand Cirque will also feature a U-shaped bar and a full list of spirits, craft cocktails, beer and wine.
Geiger Eat Shop

The menu will include new American fare with international influences and Michigan products.
