Welcome to Detroit! The metro Detroit is a very diverse region that is rich in history and culture. The metro area embraces all lifestyles and welcomes all visitors to our community.
The city of Detroit has many entertainment options for the gay and lesbian community.
The Detroit suburbs of Ferndale and Royal Oak (just north of the city) have numerous gay and lesbian nightclubs, restaurants and galleries. Both cities have thriving downtown areas, which attract many visitors and residents.
Just five minutes across the border via the Detroit Tunnel or the Ambassador Bridge you can be in another suburb of Detroit which is Windsor, Ontario, Canada a country where legal marriages are being performed.
Metro Detroit is home to a rich automotive history (of course) represented and celebrated at our many fine museums and events. The region also boasts numerous theaters (including the most theater seats outside of New York City!), unique shopping experiences and exciting casinos.
The region is also rich in ethnic diversity. African Americans make up a large portion of Detroit’s population. Dearborn is home to the largest Middle Eastern population in the in the United States, Detroit’s Mexican community thrives in the southwestern part of the city and the Polish community is alive and well in Detroit’s enclave – Hamtramck. Other cultures can be found throughout the region and many ethnic festivals celebrate diversity throughout the summer months.
