Reveling in its recent resurgence, Ferndale today is home to an urban-focused, culturally aware, walkable community full of independent shops and restaurants, a menagerie of intellectuals, musicians, artists, post-hippies, techno freaks and other assorted urban dwellers. Check out downtown Royal Oak, home to a critical mass of hipster havens, the Detroit Zoo and the Main Art Theatre, a godsend for lovers of independent movies. Elegant, prestigious and beautiful, the town of Birmingham is a great destination for a day (or night) with small and charming interesting shops, galleries and restaurants. Just to the north is Troy, worth visiting for The Somerset Collection, beyond "mall"...it’s world-class high-fashion and high-style.
