Welcome to the Tourism Economic Development Council (TEDC)
The Tourism Economic Development Council leads and directs programs to make metro Detroit a competitive tourism destination. It is a public/private partnership created in March 2002 to guide the implementation of the Tourism Vision of the Detroit Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The TEDC is the economic development arm of the Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau. The role of the TEDC is to encourage involvement of other leaders, both public and private, to facilitate change.
Mission
The Mission of the TEDC is to drive transformational strategies to enable metro Detroit to become a compelling tourism destination and grow visitor spending by $3 billion annually by 2012.
Objectives
Foster, measurable improvement in regional tourism product development
The TEDC brings together public and private sector executives to identify and develop innovative tourism policies to positively impact regional transportation, public safety & security, visual appeal, attraction development, programming, and visitor amenities. It will propose strategies for building attraction inventory and rapid solutions of the most egregious visitor complaints.
Raise community awareness of far-reaching economic and social importance of tourism
Tourism’s economic impacts are both immediate and long-term. Impacts extend beyond immediate experience and spending of visitors, to “take-away” judgments and stereotyping of destinations that can have positive and/or negative effects on staff recruitment; investment; public and private grants, etc.
