Welcome to Detroit

The complete Detroit experience consists of events and attractions in the realms of cars, culture, gaming, music and sports. With new developments, tasty eats and nationally recognized entertainment options that stun crowds unlike any other region, we think you’ll find that Detroit is a culturally remarkable city that you just can’t get enough of.

To help you plan ahead, below are a few of our must-sees, but there’s so much to see and do in Detroit that it’s hard to narrow the list. Please feel free to peruse this website and the Visit Detroit Blog, to help make the most of your time in The D.

The Henry Ford, “America’s Greatest History Attraction,” is a world-renowned museum with exhibits full of historic artifacts that will amaze and make you reflect on American history in a way you never imagined. JFK’s limo, Rosa Parks’ bus and George Washington’s bed are just a few of the items you’ll see. The Henry Ford offers the ultimate family experience, with its IMAX Theatre and the stroll-able Greenfield Village, which features Model T Rides, Edison’s Menlo Park Laboratory and much more.

Known as “Hitsville USA,” the Motown Museum is home of the world-famous Studio A, where Motown greats, such as The Temptations, Marvin Gay and others, recorded classics that we still listen to today. During your visit, you’ll get a tour around the place to see iconic photos, hear stories about how the stars made it big and learn to sing and dance just like they did back in the day.

The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History is the world's largest institution dedicated to the African-American experience! The Wright Museum provides learning opportunities, exhibitions, programs and events based on collections and research that explore the diverse history and culture of African-Americans and their African origins.

The Detroit International RiverWalk is Detroit’s beautifully restored riverfront that spans miles along the Detroit River. With stunning views of Windsor, Ontario, the Ambassador Bridge, boats, jet skis and more, you can enjoy the RiverWalk by foot or bike.

Detroit has a variety of tour companies that will guide you around downtown on walking, biking, bus or boat tours to point out sites that give us that Detroit flare.

Shopping is an activity that everyone in the family can enjoy, and with plentiful shopping options in The D, from boutique shops on suburban main streets to mega malls, you could find yourself quite content for a better part of the day. Somerset Collection in Troy features three levels of exclusive shops, such as Nordstrom, Macy’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, Tiffany & Co. and more. One of our favorites just happens to be The Detroit Shoppe, a part-museum, part-retail shop with museum-like merchandise, clothing and a whole lot of Detroit. Looking for more? Try Great Lakes Crossing in Auburn Hills or Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi.

It’s nice to unwind after a long day, and Detroit will not disappoint with its elegant nightlife options. Detroit’s big three casinos, Greektown Casino, MGM Grand Detroit and MotorCity Casino, are chockfull of restaurants, bars, spas, big-time gaming and good times. Did we get your attention? Read more on the Visit Detroit blog.

Seeing as Michigan has earned a reputation as the Great Beer State, we put together a list of 10 of metro Detroit’s best microbreweries, with some of the most original beer you’ll ever taste. Read more on the Visit Detroit blog. Perhaps you’re a wine drinker, and that’s OK, too. We know of some great metro Detroit wine bars. Read more on the Visit Detroit blog.
