Detroit is officially a foodie town. As its menus become increasingly diverse, there are more meat-free options on the table than ever before. Check out one of these vegetarian and vegan restaurants in Detroit next time you feel like going herbivore.

The Best Vegetarian and Vegan Restaurants in Detroit

Laika Dog

You might not think of a hot dog joint as being vegetarian/vegan friendly, but any dog on the fun build-your-own menu can be swapped for a vegan frankfurter. And the toppings at Laika Dog are plentiful (vegan chili, vegan cheese, kimchi and tons of veggies).

Cass Café

Though not strictly vegetarian, you’ll find no shortage of menu items, like the Spanish Vegetarian Burrito or Café Vegetarian Lasagna. Located near Wayne State University, Cass Café and comes with the added bonus of being part-restaurant/bar, part-gallery.

Mudgie’s Deli

The vast sandwich menu at Mudgie’s Deli has a length section devoted to vegetarian and vegan options, with fresh toppings like sunflower sprouts, spinach spread, grilled tempeh and even a special grilled cheese.

Seva Detroit

Seva always tops the list of Detroit’s best vegetarian/vegan restaurants – and with right cause. Try the chargrilled Tempeh Burger or Vegan Coney Dog, or stop by for Sunday brunch.

Brooklyn Street Local

Brooklyn Street Local‘s popularity is skyrocketing (especially for brunch), and there are plenty of meat-free items on the breakfast and lunch menu, from vegan poutine and vegan carrot cupcakes to the TLT (tempeh, lettuce, tomato). Note that the menu changes from weekends to weekdays.

Detroit Vegan Soul

Detroit Vegan Soul is a vegan mainstay in Detroit is known as the place to go for comfort food, and the ultimate vegan restaurant in Detroit. Check out the Soul Platter (mac-n-cheese, collards, yams, black-eyed peas and cornbread), the Seitan Pepper Steak or BBQ tofu. Or head over for brunch and try the Southern Fried Tofu and Waffle or Sweet Potato Stacks.

Living Zen Organics

Living Zen Organics has reopened in Hamtramck inside the Detroit Zen Center. It got a slight remodel to include a new tea room with beverages complementing its tasty seasonal menu options. Try cooling off on a hot day with homemade Mango Lassi and Hibiscus-Rose Iced Tea.
