On the occasion of two major Guest of Honor loans by Frida Kahlo and Salvador Dalí from the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, the Detroit Institute of Arts will present an intimate overview of surrealist art from the DIA’s permanent collection.
This installation—located immediately adjacent to Diego Rivera’s world-renowned Detroit Industry murals (1932–33)—will showcase how artists in transatlantic locales from Mexico to Spain produced their own forms of surrealist expression, creating worlds of subjectivity, myth, dream, mirage, and magic.
