Each year on Memorial Day weekend, thousands of people from across the globe gather in the birthplace of Techno to celebrate the heritage of Detroit and its musical influence over countless generations, new and old. Movement Music Festival is one of the longest-running dance music events in the world, committed to showcasing authentic electronic music and providing an experience unlike any other. The festival takes place in Hart Plaza – Detroit’s legendary riverfront destination — and boasts three days and three nights of nonstop performances from more than 100 artists across five stages. And then there's the afterparties... What makes this music festival so special? It's one of the best in the nation, drawing crowds from all over the country (and the world), to take part in the traditional Techno experience — in the birthplace of the genre. Headliners typical include music moguls and Detroit natives such as The Saunderson Brothers, Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin, The Belleville Three and Dirtybird's head honcho Claude Von Stroke (also knows as Barclay Crenshaw). But don't be fooled. The biggest names in EDM take stage at Movement too. Hart Plaza has hosted notables acts including Skrillex, metro Detroit's own GRiZ, Testpilot (famous producer Deadmau5's side gig) and more. 2019 lineup includes: Amelie Lens, Art Department, Charlotte de Witte, Chris Lake, Danny Brown, Disclosure, DJ Bone, DJ Nobu, Floorplan (LIVE), Get Real, Golf Clap, Heiko Laux, Hot Since 82, Loco Dice, Maya Jane Coles, Orbital (LIVE), The Saunderson Brothers, Stephan Bodzin and many more. If Techno's not quite your thing, there's plenty of other genres to enjoy — house, trap, rap, hip hop, experimental, ambient and more. Chill in the riverfront beer garden, check out sponsors and swag, indulge in food trucks dishing local eats, take part in art projects all over the grounds and make sure to take plenty of pictures.Hart Plazaconnect@paxahau.com
