Enjoy old-fashioned horse and carriage rides, hot cider, hot chocolate, holiday cookies, music, arts and crafts and more. Santa, Mrs. Claus and several Elves will be on hand to share magic, holiday cheer and candy canes. Admission to the event is free. Experiences and displays about Kwanzaa presented by the Wright Museum of African American History, Hanukkah presented by the Downtown Synagogue, and Christmas will be showcased. The Log Cabin will be transformed with creative decorations installed by competing teams who participating in a friendly competition for fun and prizes — Preservation Detroit, City Detroit Tour, Blossoms, Bagley Design Belles, and several neighborhood groups from Palmer Woods and Sherwood Forest are volunteering their talents. Attendees can vote for their favorites. With newly restored and sparkling stained glass windows, and the debut of its original massive front door now being restored, the Cabin will be dazzling. Children of all ages will have the opportunity to create and decorate paper birds and snowflakes to beautify the holiday tree; and adults and older children can learn how to fold origami cranes to add good luck and peace to the Log Cabin and all who visit it. Storytelling and music from diverse holidays will fill the air, as well as a live performance by violinists from Detroit Youth Volume. In the spirit of giving and sharing, please bring NEW mittens, gloves, hats and scarves to Mittens for Detroit to donate to those in need.Log Cabin at Palmer Park
