Pile up in the minivan and get ready to enter a Christmas wonderland. Wayne County Lightfest takes you around the twists and turns of Hines Drive, through an infinite tunnel of colored lights, candy canes, snowflakes, reindeer and rainbows. Once you reach the end, hop out and visit Santa’s workshop for a photo op. The light fest is a month-and-a-half-long holiday fantasy, annual and local tradition, and an absolute necessity for those in search of the Christmas spirit.
2018 marked the quarter century anniversary for the Wayne County Lightfest. The Lightfest’s magical four-mile stretch of Hines Park, displays nearly 50 animated themed displays and more than 100,000 lights. The public is invited to run, walk, bike or drive through the largest holiday light show in the Midwest during the opening week. On Thursday, November 15, Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans and Wayne County Parks invites the public to attend the Lights On ceremony celebrating the opening of the Wayne County Lightfest. Among the attractions planned for the Lights On ceremony will be musical entertainment provided by Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit, a commemorative fireworks show, and an appearance by Santa. The ceremony will conclude with Executive Evans turning on the switch to kick off the traditional first drive of the 25th annual Lightfest.
