People don’t hide from winter in Detroit. The festivals don’t stop coming. And the bands play on. At the MWB, there’s ice skating, professional skating demonstrations, ice sculptures, eats and more than 50 live music acts.
Year-round, Campus Martius Park is Detroit’s gathering place. Winter is no exception. You won’t even notice the potentially below-freezing temps with Winter Blast’s heated tents, warm food from local vendors and hot entertainment acts all weekend long. Venture out into the snow to admire intricate ice sculptures, fly down the giant snow slide or test limits to see just how daring you are on the zip line.
Downtown Detroit celebrates the snowy season — because, let’s face it, we can’t stop the snow from falling — each year with events and activities for the entire family. Meridian Winter Blast, a downtown favorite, attracts more than 85,000 guests to Campus Martius Park, Detroit’s gathering place. The Blast gets better each year, with free snowshoeing, a 30-foot slide, Detroit-themed ice sculptures, free ice skating, food, kids carnival rides, musical acts and more. There’s so much fun to be had, you’ll forget the temperature gets down to the single digits. Don’t worry about the chill, though — comfort zones are set up every 150 feet, with entertainment, eats, interactive exhibits and heat to cozy you up. Gather around a bonfire to roast a marshmallow and appreciate the downtown vibe.
