Make Way for Galentine's Day! 4 Fun Ways to Celebrate in Metro Detroit
Story by Samantha Scott | Photos by Michelle and Chris Gerard
Galentine’s Day is here again and we know you can’t wait to reconnect with your gal pals.
Even though the now widely celebrated holiday originated from the popular television show ‘Parks & Rec,’ this 12-year tradition has become one of my favorite holidays.
While Valentine’s Day is for showering your significant others with romantic gifts and special treats, February 13th was designed to celebrate the other equally significant relationships in our lives: our girlfriends! This Galentine’s Day, bring together the ladies in your life you love most and take a moment to express how much you care about and appreciate them.
Whether you’re a local Detroiter wanting to try a new experience or a trendy traveler looking for something new to try with your bestie, these five recommendations are great ways to reconnect and make new memories. Check it out!
The Selfie Museum and Skating
Nothing like selfie’s and ice skating! Well, probably not at the same time, but you get the point. Strike a pose together at the Selfie Museum which features over 20 art installations, begging you to post like crazy on Instagram and TikTok.
Then make you way to Campus Martius where you will find an ice-skating rink ready for you and your girlfriends to laugh uncontrollably and hold each other in an attempt not to fall. There are so many great ways to have fun with friends in the winter, check out these additional recommendations.
Mooju Rugs and Music
For something a little more chill, grab your girls and check out the Detroit inspired Mooju Rugs as you stroll through the artisan fair at Third Man Records. The rugs definitely set a vibe and I’m sure that you can find one that matches anyone’s style and personality.
Make your way through the music lovers paradise while finding songs and albums that spark nostalgia and memories of good times together. You nor your lady friends will leave disappointed or empty handed.
Munchies and Sweets
Head to Dearborn for some classic eats and new sweet treats! The infamous Detroit Style Pizza can be found at Buddy’s Pizza and is the perfect place to comfortably stuff your face and catch up with your girlfriends.
Make sure to leave room for more and make your way to the new House of Chimney Cakes. One look at their ‘Oreo Overload’ or the ‘Fashionista’ and they will love you for life. Everyone has a sweet tooth and they will appreciate it being satisfied.
Bar Hop and Stroll the Alley’s
If you and your girls are the ‘on the move’ type, start your Galentine’s Day at the Ten Nail Bar, where they do group bookings, for mani’s and pedi’s. Did I mention, they offer a glass of champagne to enjoy during your services? Then make your way to the Siren Hotel to grab drinks at the Candy Bar and enjoy some delicious apps and cocktails in their plush bar area.
Nothing like experiencing the alleys in Detroit. Each one is lined with bars, restaurants, boutiques, murals, nightlife and more. This is a surefire way to maximize your day and time to get that good quality time in with the girls.
