Before you gear up for the event, here are a few tips to help improve your convention experience.
Youmacon Detroit 2017
1. Where to Stay
Downtown Detroit has several hotel options for your stay in Detroit for the weekend (check the Youmacon webpage for hotels with special discounts for congoers). Holiday Inn Express & Suites, DoubleTree Suites by Hilton and Crowne Plaza are attendee favorites.
2. What to Bring
Now that you know where you’re going to stay, here’s what you should bring. Since you’re coming to a convention, you’re going to be pretty busy. Check out this list of recommended items you should take along:
•Water
• Snacks
• Items you want signed by voice actors and actresses
• Money
• Camera
• Phone
• Card Games
You’re going to want to bring entertainment, this way you’ll have something to do while you wait between sessions. You’ll need snacks because you’re going to get hungry and bring a bottle of water to stay hydrated. They offers merchandise for otaku, and there’s quite a few options for restaurants, so make sure you bring your spending money. Lastly, bring a camera. You’ll come across really great cosplayers, or even one of your favorite anime characters. Gotta snap em’ all!
3. Costume Ideas for Youmacon
Just because you’re going to the convention, doesn’t mean that you have to dress in costume. You can wear whatever you want as long as it doesn’t violate Youmacon’s regulations. If you want to dress up, you can buy costumes or make them yourself. If you worked hard on your costume, sign up for the cosplay contest for a shot at being crowned best cosplayer!
4. Special Events
The event offers plenty of entertainment, from video, console, board, card and arcade games to panels, autographs, concerts and Q&A’s. There’s never a dull moment! Youmacon has an extreme amount of entertainment to indulge in. Make sure you plan where you want to go with your Youmacon Guide Book. You’ll receive a Guide Book upon registry, but be sure to check the Youmacon website for changes within the schedule. Don’t forget about Artist’s Alley or the Fan Art Theatre. Time flies when you’re having fun!
