Detroit, MI, November 15, 2022 — The popularity of tours relating to television and movie filming locations has grown dramatically in recent years. You’ll find Breaking Bad tours in Albuquerque, Sex and the City tours in New York City, Game of Thrones tours in Dubrovnik or Belfast, and, of course, the enduring Sound of Music tours in Salzburg. Now, Detroit is on the ever-growing list of cities showcasing popular movies filmed locally with the release of 8 Mile: The Movie Sites Tour offered by City Tour Detroit.

“I’ve wanted to offer this tour for a long time,” said City Tour Detroit owner Karin Risko, who includes 8 Mile as one of her favorite movies. “Visitors on our other Detroit tours often ask about things related to the movie such as 8 Mile Road, various filming locations, and if I personally know Eminem (I don’t). When I discovered the 20th anniversary of the movie’s release was in November, I felt it was the perfect opportunity to launch the tour.”

8 Mile: The Movie Sites Tour travels to the many Detroit movie locations main character Jimmy Smith Jr. or B-Rabbit, played by Eminem, frequented as he attempted to rise above a dysfunctional family life and unfulfilling 9 to 5 and take his one shot at becoming a rap star. Eight Mile Road, the iconic cow head, Michigan Theater parking structure, and locations used for the 8 Mile Mobile Court, Detroit New Stamping, and The Shelter are a few of the many sites visited on this 4-hour bus tour.

The location of the former Hip Hop Shop, where Eminem got his start, is also on the tour. Although the once popular clothing boutique and music venue operated by fashion designer Maurice Malone isn’t featured in 8 Mile, the legendary open mic nights held there served as the inspiration for the movie’s rap battles. A visit to this historic Detroit music site known as the Mecca of 1990s hip hop culture is possible thanks to a collaboration with the building’s current occupants Curtis McKinnon, Alex Anderson and rapper MauriCorey. They operate Bank Rose Productions, a recording studio, and CrowdFreak, a hip hop media-talent agency, in the space today.

The tour wraps with an included S’ghetti Sandwich from Mom’s Spaghetti and a look inside The Trailer, a store featuring exclusive Mom’s and Eminem merchandise for sale and some cool Eminem memorabilia.

Tour guests are encouraged to dress as their favorite characters from the movie and brush up on their 8 Mile trivia. Prizes will be awarded. Tours run from 1 pm to 5 pm on Sundays, November 20 and 27 and Saturday, December 17. Ticket price is $65.To purchase tickets or further tour details, visit  www.citytourdetroit.com
