College Basketball and Green Beer: Need we say more?

It’s March. The weather is (kinda) breaking. The days are a little longer. And people are ready to abandon their cabin fever. Well, Detroit is ready for you this weekend.

Ball is Life

The NCAA Tournament is arguably one of the best parts of March. And here in Detroit, we’re joining in on the madness. Little Caesars Arena plays host to the first and second rounds of the tournament Friday, March 16 and Sunday, March 18.

The big party starts on Friday, March 16 at 12:40 p.m. with a matchup between Purdue and Cal State Fullerton. The madness continues throughout the day.

If you’re a Michigan State fan, you’re in luck. The Spartans take the court Friday, March 16 at 7:10 p.m. against Bucknell. Tickets are going for around $200 on Stubhub and other third-party sites.

If you’re not up for going to the game (or if you’re a Michigan fan, we get it) there are plenty of sports bars in the area to watch some hoops. Sports & Social is actually attached to LCA and has tons of TVs to catch the action. Create your own sports-bar-crawl by hitting Harry’s Detroit, Bookies Bar & Grille, and Hockeytown Café.Thomas Magee’s Sporting House Whiskey Bar and Nemo’s are Detroit sports bar staples just a beyond the downtown limits.

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day Detroit Style

If the tournament isn’t enough reason to celebrate, St. Patrick’s Day certainly is. Corktown, Detroit’s oldest neighborhood originally settled by Irish immigrants, is the place to be on March 17th. McShane’s Irish Pub & Whiskey Bar, Nancy Whiskey and Corktown Tavern will have the drinks flowing.

Greektown will also be poppin’ on St. Patty’s Day. The obvious Irish staple, The Old Shillelagh hosts a big bash complete with a heated tent and live entertainment, doors open at 7 a.m. Continue the party at Firebird Tavern where you can sip some more brews and grab a classic corned beef sandwich.

The Best of Both Worlds

Sports & Social, attached to Little Caesars Arena, is hosting its own St. Patrick’s Day shin-dig starting at 8 a.m. There will be drink specials all day, live entertainment and basketball on the big screens.

So, Happy March Madness and Happy St. Patrick’s Day. Go green (go white), or if that’s not your style, just go get some green beer.
