Detroit music ruled the corridor over the years, thanks to legendary music venues like Alvin’s and The Gold Dollar. Today, bands still make their way to the stage at The Old Miami and inside Third Man Records.

Craft beer is a way of life in Detroit. Even the most discerning beer fans will find a brew they love and if they’re lucky – a seat at the bar inside 8 Degrees Plato. Michigan is home to the first-ever all-sour brewery and its Detroit outpost keeps the taps flowing at Jolly Pumpkin Pizzeria, also offering other craft varieties by North Peak Brewery on site. The city’s first craft brewery, Motor City Brewing Works, still reels in fans with its neighborhood friendly mosaic bar and seasonal rooftop seating. Take Cass Avenue south to find Anchor Bar, a legendary watering hole attracting sports fans and journalists among its regulars.

Cass Avenue has its share of can’t-miss sights. They start with Detroit’s home for Broadway-caliber shows at the Fisher Theater and continue along to Wayne State’s campus and the Hillberry Theatre, both outstanding options for a live performance. The bookish will want to wander the artful halls of the Detroit Public Library. While architecture fans should not miss a stroll through the Yamasaki-designed McGregor Memorial Conference Center on Wayne State University’s campus will surprise and delight those who appreciate modernist architecture. For those traveling with Fido, Midtown Dog Park offers a respite near shops and dining, including Cass Corridog if you need a new leash.

Layer up for winter with Detroit’s own Carhartt or browse the must-have home and garden accessories at Nest. Grab new music and give it a spin at Third Man Records or spoil yourself with top-notch barware and decor from Hugh or Nora. Detroit’s Shinola is the spot for luxury leather goods, watches that will be envied or a custom new bike.

Dining your way along Cass Avenue should begin at breakfast, with giant blueberry pancakes Old Campus Restaurant or a cinnamon roll still bubbling in a griddle at Parks & Rec Diner. Shoot on over to the original Avalon International Breads for a fresh sandwich or focaccia, but don’t leave without those famous Chocolate Chip Sea Salt Cookies. Indulge in salted caramel or even more unusual flavors of ice cream at Treat Dreams. When it comes to dinner the awe-inspiring dishes at The PeterboroLa Feria or a local favorite and Traffic Jam & Snug are sure to keep you warm.
