10 Things to Know about the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix

Here’s what you need to know about the big weekend:
1. Check the schedule before you go
If you’re anxious to see a particular event, view the Detroit Grand Prix schedule.
2. The Return of the Trans Am
The popular Trans Am Series is returning, bringing some history and heritage to the weekend.
3. Practice makes perfect
You might find lighter crowds and a better view if you check out the practice, warm-up or qualifying events.
4. All for the fans
The Grand Prix celebrates its spectators with driver autograph sessions, extreme sports demonstrations, Detroit sports stars appearances and more.
5. More music
Live music keeps the weekend flowing, and this year’s event welcomes Frankie Ballard, The Stone Temple Pilots and Brooklyn rockers Spirit Animal.
6. A better Belle Isle
The Grand Prix has had a huge impact on Belle Isle, thanks to more than $13 million in improvements, including road and lighting improvements, renovations of the Scott Fountain, Belle Isle Casino and Belle Isle Boat Club, new pedestrian bridges and more.
7. Extend your day
Cap off your trip to the races with a stop at the Belle Isle Nature Center, Belle Isle Aquarium or Dossin Great Lakes Museum for more fun.
8. Bring your bike
If the weather’s right, Belle Isle is a great place for biking, after all, it’s the brainchild of Frederick Law Olmstead, who also designed Central Park in New York.
9. Make a weekend of it
Looking for a place to stay? Check out hotels in downtown Detroit and a couple of restaurants in downtown Detroit (try something near the RiverWalk).
10. Watch the televised coverage if you can’t make it down
