The Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix weekend is May 31-June 2, featuring cars from the NTT IndyCar Series, the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli. Here’s what you need to know about the big weekend:

1. Check the schedule before you go

If you’re anxious to see a particular event, view the Detroit Grand Prix schedule.

2. The Return of the Trans Am

The popular Trans Am Series is returning, bringing some history and heritage to the weekend.

3. Practice makes perfect

You might find lighter crowds and a better view if you check out the practice, warm-up or qualifying events.

4. All for the fans

The Grand Prix celebrates its spectators with driver autograph sessions, extreme sports demonstrations, Detroit sports stars appearances and more.

5. More music

Live music keeps the weekend flowing, and this year’s event welcomes Frankie Ballard, The Stone Temple Pilots and Brooklyn rockers Spirit Animal.

6. A better Belle Isle

The Grand Prix has had a huge impact on Belle Isle, thanks to more than $13 million in improvements, including road and lighting improvements, renovations of the Scott Fountain, Belle Isle Casino and Belle Isle Boat Club, new pedestrian bridges and more.

7. Extend your day

Cap off your trip to the races with a stop at the Belle Isle Nature Center, Belle Isle Aquarium or Dossin Great Lakes Museum for more fun.

8. Bring your bike

If the weather’s right, Belle Isle is a great place for biking, after all, it’s the brainchild of Frederick Law Olmstead, who also designed Central Park in New York.

9. Make a weekend of it

Looking for a place to stay? Check out hotels in downtown Detroit and a couple of restaurants in downtown Detroit (try something near the RiverWalk).

10. Watch the televised coverage if you can’t make it down

ABC, FS1, CBS Sports Network and WXYZ will provide live national and local coverage of the weekend.
