Are you and your dog getting tired of walking around your neighborhood everyday? We sure are. It’s important to get fresh air and get your dog some exercise, so why not switch up your walking route this week and see something new?

As always, it is important to keep your distance from others and wear a mask in public. If an area is too crowded, try going back another time.

Palmer Park

Palmer Park is a 296-acre public park off of Woodward Avenue. Located near the Detroit Golf Club and the University District, walking near this park is perfect for architecture buffs. While you’re there, be sure to check out the Merrill Humane fountain, which used to be in front of the old Detroit Opera House. Plus there’s plenty of open space for your dog to run around.

If you’ve never been on Wayne State’s campus, now is the chance to check it out while students are away. Be sure to walk by the McGregor Memorial Conference Center, known for its beautiful fountain. The Detroit Public Library is nearby as well.

Eastern Market

Now is your chance to branch out and discover some of the lesser known murals in the market. Walk away from the typical Saturday sheds and you will discover all kinds of public art on the sides of warehouses and other buildings.

Indian Village/West Village

These historic Detroit neighborhoods have some of the most beautiful architecture in the state. Take a leisurely stroll around the neighborhood that the famous Sister Pie calls home. There’s plenty of large trees that offer shade for you and your furry friend.

Woodward Avenue

If you’re feeling really ambitious, take a long walk up Woodward Avenue to explore three areas of Detroit in one day. Start at Hart Plaza and walk up Woodward Avenue all the way to New Center and the Fisher Building. Not only will you and your dog get in a good workout, but you will take in the riverfront, downtown, Midtown and New Center.
