Detroit is a great place to nerd out. You may catch a few eye-rolls at first, as you make an evening out of the suggestions below with a group, but they promise a fun night to remember.

Get Dorky

Gaze at the Stars

Relive your middle school astronomy lessons at the Wayne State University Planetarium, which hosts weekly public shows (usually on Friday nights). No need to be an astronomy buff to attend but you should check the calendar of events before heading out.

Be a Bookworm

It’s easy to lose yourself in the pages of a good book and even easier to lose yourself in the towering aisles of John K. King Used & Rare Books, Michigan’s largest used and rare bookstore. The store has no computerized catalog or search system, which means each floor’s manager is a wealth of knowledge about the, erm, knowledge contained on the shelves. It’s a unique shopping experience you’ll want to give yourself plenty of time to enjoy.

Tour Hitsville, U.S.A.

They don’t call it Motown for nothing. A tour of the Motown Museum lets you walk in the shoes of the Temptations, Four Tops, Miracles, Supremes and more. It’s touristy, but for good reason. It’s where some of the artists recorded their best music.
