Celebrations, clean-ups, and educational events are happening across the tri-county area. Check out this list of the top nine ways to celebrate Earth Day 2021 in Detroit.

Hear speakers who want to improve the planet, locally and march for the cause. Attendees are encouraged to dress up as a creature from another species or bring a sign for the occasion.
8. Green Fire: Aldo Leopold & A Land Ethic for Our Time
Location: Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm
Date: April 22, 2021
Celebrate Earth Day 2021 with a screening of the documentary Green Fire. The documentary explores the life and legacy of Aldo Leopold, famous conservationist.

7. Open Air Earth Day Celebration at Hope House & Garden
Location: Voices For Earth Justice
Date: April 22, 2021
This outdoor event will welcome people of all faiths to come together for prayer, music, renewal, and reflection on our glorious planet.
6. Earth.Wind.Weather Member Preview and Grand Opening
Location: Michigan Science Center
Date: April 22, 2021
MiSci is unveiling a new permanent exhibit where you can explore 11 forces of nature. Extreme Weather will be featured in the 4D theater along with interactive activities that model the Earth’s powerful forces in real-time. A special preview for members is on April 22, with a grand opening to all visitors on April 24.

5. Earth Day Huron Clean Up
Location: Indian Village Park
Date: April 24, 2021
All ages are welcome to help clean up the park for Earth Day 2021. Come together to clean up graffiti, rake leaves, pick up trash, and sweep the sidewalks. Find Earth-loving friends and help to beautify the planet.
4. Free Tree Give-A-Way
Location: Palmer Park
Date: April 24, 2021
Help clean up Palmer Park, celebrate Earth Day 2021, and take home a free tree. Plastic Oceans and the Social Forestry Project will be giving out 200 individually wrapped Red Oak Seedlings at the People for Palmer Park Earth Day Clean-up.

3. Earth Day 2021 – Restore the Earth
Location: Red Oaks Nature Center
Date: April 24, 2021
Learn about restoration efforts and simple ways to go green at home. Make and take a unique Earth Day craft. This event costs $5 and pre-registration is required. All events will take place outside in the open air.
2. BlueCommunities Detroit Shoreline Cleanup and Tree Giveaway
Location: Maheras Gentry Park
Date: April 24, 2021
The Social Forestry Project and Plastic Oceans International celebrate Earth Day 2021 and BlueCommunities Detroit’s first event. Come together to clean up the shoreline and more at Maheras Gentry Park and go home with a free tree (saplings).
1. Library Events
So many of the local libraries have storytimes and activities planned for Earth Day 2021. Royal Oak Public Library has a special storytime, and Harrison Township Library has STEM Saturday Earth Day with TechKnow Kids. Check with your librarians to see what they have in store.
