The Preservation of Jazz Monday Night Music Series proudly presents Nina Simone Neal in a special solo tribute to Dinah Washington at Aretha’s Jazz Café (350 Madison, Detroit, MI). This unforgettable performance takes place on Monday, March 31, 2025, at 8:00 PM, with doors opening at 7:00 PM.
Nina Simone Neal, an award-winning Detroit R&B vocalist, has spent the past five years honoring the legacy of Dinah Washington through her passionate and soulful performances. Known for her electrifying stage presence and deep connection to jazz, Neal brings Dinah’s iconic catalog to life in a tribute that pays homage to one of the most influential vocalists in jazz and blues history.
Celebrating the Legacy of Dinah Washington
Dinah Washington’s impact on music has been honored in numerous ways, including:
Unforgettable: A Tribute to Dinah Washington (1964), an album recorded by Aretha Franklin.
1993 – The U.S. Post Office issued a Dinah Washington 29-cent commemorative stamp.
2005 – Dinah Washington Park was established in Chicago, where she once lived.
2008-2009 – Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Washington’s birthplace, dedicated Dinah Washington Avenue and the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center in her honor
