Modified: January 31, 2023 | Story by Danielle Alexander | Photos by Diamond Jack's, Motor City Brew ToursIf you’re planning or attending a meeting in Detroit, you should definitely consider trying out a tour of the city. Whether you prefer to check out Detroit by foot, car, bus, bike or boat, there is definitely a tour for you.
Walking Tours
City Tour Detroit
City Tour Detroit, known as a “go-to-guide for all things Detroit,” prides itself on being able to “handle all the details from booking attractions, restaurants, hotels and transportation” to “providing knowledgeable and enthusiastic guides.” Detroit Dine Around and Notorious 313 True Crime and Ghost Tours are two of several walking tour options they offer. For more information, visit City Tour Detroit’s website.
City Institute
A tour that creates tailored experiences and led by Detroiters. City Institute offers public and customized tours, including walking, bar tours and more. “As unapologetic know-it-alls, they offer an insider’s perspective.”
Detroit Tour Connections
Since 2004, Detroit Tour Connections has offered guests great tours, and two favorites have definitely been the Monday 6 p.m. Walking Tour and Detroit Urban Adventures, where you can attend The D You Must See, Corktown is Popping! and/or Detroit’s Rise, Fall and Renewal by foot.
Feet on the Street
In the past, Feet on the Street Tours have taken guests on food, architecture/history and art tours by foot; however, custom tours are also an option! Visit Feet on the Street Tours’ contact page to discuss time-frames, budgets and interests, so they can provide something that will be “memorable for your group to Experience, Explore and Enjoy Detroit.”
Car and Bus Tours
City Tour Detroit
City Tour Detroit also offers tours via bus. See the D, a tour through both the downtown hotspots and beyond, and Solid Gold, a musical journey throughout the heart and soul of the Motor City, are two popular ones. Visit City Tour Detroit’s website for other bus tour options.
Destination Detroit
Destination Detroit tours provide tailored group tours and services professionally narrated by local guides. You can customize your own itinerary to fit the needs of your group and will appreciate Destination Detroit’s expertise.
Detroit Tour Connections
Detroit Tour Connections has bus tours, as well, complete with step-on guides and tourists’ freedom to choose tours that focus on Detroit highlights, historic churches, auto history or a wide variety of other topics.
Feet on the Street
Detroit Up Close and Personal, a bus tour through the streets of Detroit, and Blast from the Past, a bus tour for those wishing to visit their old neighborhood/stomping grounds in Detroit, are two of many bus tour options that Feet on the Street Tours can offer its guests.
Motor City Brew
Similar to its walking tours, Motor City Brew Tours also offers guests the year-round option to bus, as well.
Show Me Detroit Tours
Every day, year-round, Show Me Detroit Tours offers guests sightseeing tours in Downtown Detroit at both 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. These “daily, chauffeured, deluxe-van tours of Detroit” provide a fun, fast-paced two hour journey through Detroit’s highlights and attractions.
Bike Tours
Motor City Brew
From May to September, Motor City Brew Tours provides guests the option to bike. Interested?
Wheelhouse Detroit
Wheelhouse Detroit offers more than just bike rentals — you can schedule a guided tour with a Wheelhouse expert. Take a ride through the Dequindre Cut or Eastern Market.
Boat Tour
Diamond Jack’s River Tours
Known for being a “family-owned and operated riverboat tour business that offers entertaining and affordable cruises for more than 20 years,” Diamond Jack’s River Tours is open June through September every year and departs out of Rivard Plaza. The two-hour Detroit River cruise allows guests to not only experience the beautiful views of the Detroit and Windsor skylines, but also learn about the one-of-a-kind history of the Motor City.
