Girl Boss Fashions Launches Brick and Mortar Location in Downtown Detroit’s Expanding Retail Scene

Thursday, June 30, 2022 [DETROIT] – Bedrock, a Midwest real estate developer managing more than 100 properties in Detroit and Cleveland, today reaffirmed its commitment to Detroit’s small business community with the opening of Girl Boss Fashions. The locally owned women’s apparel boutique pop-up transitions to full brick and mortar on July 1st at 111 Monroe St. in downtown Detroit’s flourishing retail scene.

As the most recent graduate of Bedrock’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, Girl Boss Fashions announced that it will be transitioning to a permanent 2,200 SF brick and mortar storefront in Downtown Detroit’s flourishing retail scene, located at 111 Monroe Street.

Opening Friday, July 1, 2022 Girl Boss Fashions’ mission is to provide women of all sizes quality pieces that are fashion-forward, figure-flattering and stylish. The brand caters to a wide range of ages and sells apparel for every occasion. Each piece of clothing is hand-picked by Evans with sizes ranging from XS- 4X.

“Girl Boss Fashions is committed now more than ever to empowering women, supporting our community and rooting our brand deep into the City of Detroit,” said Tenisia Evans, Founder, Girl Boss Fashions. “As a native Detroit entrepreneur, I am ecstatic to expand Girl Boss Fashions into a permanent brick and mortar Downtown with the support of the team at Bedrock.”

Evans started Girl Boss Fashions in 2016 after struggling to find clothing that both fit her well and that she felt comfortable and confident wearing. It was initially a platform to sell her customized, inspirational bling T-shirts, and Evans quickly found success and launched an online shop and her first store in 2017 on the east side of Detroit. Girl Boss Fashions has its original shop in Detroit on Kelly Rd., and has since expanded to Lakeside Mall, Partridge Creek and Macomb Mall. Now with these four other shops open, Evans is ready to grow the Girl Boss brand and empower more women to own their style.

Girl Boss Fashions’ staple bling T-shirts sport phrases such as “The struggle is real but I make it look good” and “I’m a jewel.” Girl Boss Fashions has since expanded to include dresses, skirts, pants, jackets, sweaters and footwear. Accessories include hats, belts, sunglasses, handbags, masks and a wide selection of jewelry.

Bedrock’s Entrepreneurial Ecosystem

Bedrock has fostered relationships and provided support to local brands along their entrepreneurial journeys – from the introduction at the seasonal Downtown Detroit Markets, to the strategic placements adjacent to national brands. The result of this deeply rooted pride is the launch of more than 140 local small businesses that bring their products and services to an eager downtown clientele.

Another layer of small business support includes the $2.3 million in financial contributions by Bedrock and the Rocket Community Fund to developing the Downtown Detroit Markets over the past five holiday seasons. Over that time, more than 120 brands have participated in the markets.

More than 20 entrepreneurs have participated in Bedrock’s pop-up program and current shops in Bedrock’s Downtown Detroit portfolio include Plugged In Collection, Former Vintage, Postcard Kid and the Selfie Museum of Detroit.

Additionally, this year, Bedrock partnered with Playground Detroit to host the first pop-up shop at the Monroe Street Midway. The shop features artwork and goods from Playground Detroit gallery artists as well as an array of additional rotating vendors throughout the summer.
