Guide to the Horizon League Tournament
This year Motor City Madness Horizon League Tournament finds a new home at Little Caesars Arena. This means a new atmosphere, a new area of town, new restaurants and new places to explore. Here’s your guide to all things Horizon League Tournament, no matter what team you’re cheering for:
If You Have Spare Time Between Games
Maybe it’s a few hours, or maybe even a full day, but there are plenty of things to do in The D if you’re killing time.
Grab a Bite
If you’re really hungry, you don’t have to stray far from LCA to grab some food. Sports & Social, Mike’s Pizza Bar and Made in Detroit are accessible from inside the arena, each offering a distinct menu. We recommend the deep dish Italian sausage and pepperoni pie at Mike’s Pizza Bar.
Hop on the QLine and head toward downtown to hit up Calexico, Central Kitchen or Shake Shack. Save room for Detroit Water Ice though, The D’s very own sweet treat – it’s a must while in the city.
If you venture out of the downtown core, try Corktown for burgers and shakes at Mercury Burger & Bar, or to sample our classic barbeque joint, Red Smoke BBQ. If you’re in the mood for Italian, Ottava Via is where it’s at.
In Midtown grab pizza at Jolly Pumpkin or get some crack fries at HopCat, a great group-friendly spot. Either way, you can’t go wrong.
Go for a Drink
Pass the time with one of The D’s signature brews at Detroit Brewing Co. Or, stroll over to Rusted Crow in Grand Circus Park to snag a craft cocktail made with locally-distilled spirits. If you’re feeling adventurous, try out their menu – the PB&J and Pico (this one has flaming hot Cheetos on top) burgers are favorites.
Check out some of the most popular sports bars in town – Hockeytown Café, Harry’s, or Elwood. They’re all in close proximity to LCA and serve up cold beer and bar fare.
Explore The D
Detroit has a little bit of everything. If you’re a music fan, head over to Motown Museum to learn the history behind the legendary genre. If you prefer the arts, The Detroit Institute of Arts is a must. To our shoppers out there, we suggest Midtown and downtown for a diverse selection of specialty shops and boutiques.
Be Part of the Madness
The tournament has a range of events and you’ll want to join in on the fun. From painting night to the baby race (yes, baby race) you’ll have your chance to be part of the madness.
