Monroe Street Midway Kicks Off New Programming!

The Monroe Street Midway announces a series of upcoming events with the University of Michigan Adaptive & Inclusive Sports Experience (UMAISE), a special Juneteenth celebration, and FREE, family-friendly events beginning the week of June 19th.

WHAT: University of Michigan Adaptive & Inclusive Sports Experience (UMAISE) at the Monroe Street Midway

HIGHLIGHTS: Join us for a series of FREE, adaptive and inclusive activities hosted by UMAISE at the Midway! UMAISE is an adaptive sports program based out of the University of Michigan Health (Michigan Medicine) that provides inclusive sports & recreational programs throughout the state of Michigan, and together, we invite you to join us for three days of adaptive sports and many other amazing things for adults and children of all ages! Programming includes:

• Slalom Obstacle Course

• Yoga

• Pickle Ball

• Martial Arts Lessons

• 2v2 Basketball Tournaments

• Knockout Basketball

* Detroit Disability Power will also be on-site to provide free resources to the community, and UMAISE will provide adaptive sports equipment for children and adults on-site.

WHEN: Thursday, June 29: 2:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Friday, July 28: 2:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Thursday, August 24: 2:00pm – 7:00 pm

WHAT: Juneteenth Celebration at the Monroe Street Midway

HIGHLIGHTS: Commemorate Juneteenth in downtown Detroit at the Midway with a selection of FREE and family-friendly program offerings, including:

Live poetry performances by Joel Fluent Greene Presents: The Poets of Detroit

African Dance and Drum performances by the Omowale Cultural Society

Bookstore popup & giveaways in partnership with Source Booksellers

Live performances form the Detroit Youth Choir

FREE Roller Skating

Basketball

Special guest appearances by One Mike Detroit/Oooh Wee, It Is! and DJ Nick Speed

Detroit Hustle Line Lessons
