This January 12-15, The Aroma Labs and Visit Detroit are kicking off a seven-city tour, bringing a piece of Detroit’s innovation, creativity, and community spirit to meeting planners and event professionals nationwide. The first stop? The PCMA Convening Leaders (CL) show. This unique collaboration introduces attendees to a personal and interactive experience that embodies Detroit’s character while highlighting the city as a premier meetings and conventions destination.
This partnership between Visit Detroit and The Aroma Labs is more than an event showcase; it’s a testament to shared values of community support, economic growth, and sustainability. By engaging meeting planners in thoughtful, localized experiences, the collaboration aims to demonstrate how partnerships with Detroit can be meaningful, memorable, and impactful.As the first of seven activations planned for 2025, this initiative sets the tone for a yearlong journey of connection and discovery, displaying how Detroit redefines the power of partnership by bridging meeting planners and with our local community.
At the heart of the activation is The Aroma Labs (TAL), a Michigan-based business founded by Tanya Thompson. Participating attendees will embark on a personalized fragrance journey that combines creativity and individuality:
- Explore TAL’s top 10 signature scents at a scenting station.
- Select two or three fragrances that resonate most.
- Watch as an expert "Aromatender" blends these into a custom fragrance, packaged in a Detroit-branded, mini spray tube.
For those who prefer not to create their own, exclusive Visit Detroit private-label scents will be available, ensuring every guest leaves with a piece of Detroit.
This isn’t just about creating a fragrance—it’s about creating a memory and nurturing a connection to the city’s culture and ingenuity.
While attendees design their custom scent, Visit Detroit’s team will have an opportunity to not only casually connect with curious attendees and clients, they will be able to share why The Aroma Labs is the designated collab partner for this PCMA CL.
Our team is looking forward to talking with attendees about our city’s appeal as a meetings and conventions destination. From hosting PCMA to a record breaking attended NFL Draft, anyone will have a chance to learn how Detroit is poised to host a wide range of events.
Most importantly, guests will be able to interact with our new activation and a first hand experience of Detroit’s culture and business community, and learn how their events can easily integrate Detroit’s true character and energy.
The Aroma Labs is a reflection of Detroit’s strength and creativity. Tanya Thompson, the founder, started the business as a way to channel and process her emotions during a deeply challenging time in her life. What began as a basement hobby has grown into a thriving local business, offering individuals the chance to create custom scents that are as unique as they are.
By bringing The Aroma Labs on the road with us, we can highlight not only the city’s entrepreneurial spirit but also our commitment to supporting local businesses and sharing authentic Detroit stories.

The PCMA CL activation is just the beginning. Over the course of 2025, Visit Detroit bring more experiences like this to six more cities across the country. Each stop will offer meeting planners and attendees the chance to connect with Detroit’s values, culture, and potential in a deeply personal way.
