Michigan is one of the best states in the country for golf, with hundreds of golf courses spread throughout the state. If you’re looking to get out of a meeting or leave work early to hit the links, here are several different courses throughout metro Detroit where you can sneak away and play golf.

Wayne County and Detroit

Rouge Park Golf Course – 11701 Burt Rd. in Detroit

One of two golf courses in the City of Detroit, Rouge Park opened almost 100 years ago and is a great spot for an afternoon round of golf.

The course features 18 holes and is a par-72 topping out at 6,325 yards from the back tees.

You’ll get a challenge, especially on the front 9 holes, with the second hole which includes a downhill blind shot to the green over a creek, and a big uphill par-3 on the fourth hole.

18 holes with a cart are $30 for weekdays or $24 for walking and $40 with a cart on weekends. 9 holes walking during the weekday is $20.

Chandler Park Golf Course – 12801 Chandler Park Dr. in Detroit

Chandler Park is the other course in the City of Detroit and is located right off of I-94 on the city’s east side.

The wide greens and fairways are great for any golfer, and it tops out at 6,000 yards from the back and just 4,500 from the front tees.

Prices are $30 with a cart on weekdays and $40 for weekends, and walking rates are $25 for 18 holes on weekdays and $35 for weekends.

9 holes walking is $20 on weekdays and $23 with a cart.

Lakes of Taylor Golf Course & Taylor Meadows Golf Course

The City of Taylor runs two golf courses that are each about 20 minutes from Downtown Detroit and also 20 minutes from the airport.

Both courses were designed by Arthur Hills, and Lakes of Taylor is one of the best public courses in Michigan stretching out to 7,028 yards for a par-72.

Taylor Meadows is also located right off I-94 and is just over 6,200 yards from the back tees at a par-72, including a par-37 on the back 9 which has three par-5s.

Fox Hills Golf – 8768 N. Territorial Rd. in Plymouth

You’re bound to find whatever type of golf you’re looking for at Fox Hills. They have three different courses – Golden Fox, a links-style course designed by Arthur Hills, the Fox Classic Course which has 27 holes, and the Strategic Fox Course, a short par-3 course.

If you want to have some fun, that’s where Strategic Fox comes in. It features 18 holes, all par-3s, with the longest being 195 yards from the back and the shortest being just 91 yards.

Strategic Fox is $15 for 9 holes and $20 for 18 holes every day, while Fox Classic is $20 for 9 holes on weekdays before 3 p.m. and $25 on weekends without a cart. It goes up to $30 and $40 for 18 holes of walking.

Finally, Golden Fox is $35 for 9 holes with a cart on weekdays, $40-$65 for weekdays with a cart, and $49-79 for weekend 18 holes.

Wyandotte Shores Golf Course – 3625 Biddle Ave. in Wyandotte

This links-style course located along the Detroit River offers 9 holes of golf with tees ranging from 2,455 yards to 3,240 yards.

It’s owned by the City of Wyandotte and offers a pro shop and concession stand with drinks and snacks.

Belle Isle Golf Center – 175 Lakeside Dr. in Detroit

Finally, the Belle Isle Golf Center isn’t specifically a course, but it’s a great place to get out and hit some balls while you’re trying to kill some time.

Located on the northeastern end of the island, the course includes a driving range, a practice area, and a 6-hole short game course where you can work on short wedges, chipping, and putting

It’s $10 to use the short game course, $5 to use the practice area for an hour, and buckets range from $9 for a small to $18 for a large.

Oakland County

Rackham Golf Course – 10100 W. 10 Mile in Huntington Woods

Located in southern Oakland County right off I-696, Rackham is the other golf course managed by the City of Detroit and Signet Golf Associates.

The course is designed by legendary golf course architect Donald Ross, and is a par-71 with a par-36 in the front and par-35 on the back nine.

It has some of the most fun and craziest greens in metro Detroit, and when in dry conditions, you’ll find yourself angry and in awe of the undulations.

Prices start at $38 for weekdays with a cart and $33 for 18 holes walking, and $41 walking for 18 holes on weekends. If you want to sneak in 9 holes, it costs $26 on weekdays with a cart, $33 on Fridays, and $33 on weekends.

Fieldstone Golf Club – 1984 Taylor Rd. in Auburn Hills

Fieldstone is in the northern part of Oakland County and is one of the top public courses in metro Detroit.

It was designed by Arthur Hills and is a par-72 that tops out at 7,002 yards from the back and just 4,941 yards from the shortest tees.

It’s $37 for non-residents for 9 holes with a cart and $66 for weekday 18 holes with a cart. Friday-Sunday it’s $41 for 9 holes with a cart and $71 with a cart on weekends.

Evergreen Hills Golf Course – 26000 Evergreen Rd. in Southfield

Located just about 20 minutes from Downtown Detroit, Evergreen Hill is a nice 9-hole course run by the City of Southfield.

The course is a par-34 with a total yardage of just under 3,000 yards with many hills, some fun greens, and challenging holes.

The course ranges from $12 for 9 holes walking to $26 for 9 holes with a cart.

Sylvan Glen Golf Course – 5725 Rochester Rd. in Troy

Sylvan Glen is about 25 minutes north of Downtown Detroit down I-75 and offers four sets of tees from 5,000 yards to 6,700 yards.

The course is often busy and offers something for all types of golfers, with a restaurant adjacent to the pro shop.

Prices are $30 for weekday 9 holes and $50 for 18 holes on weekdays and $58 on weekends.

Maples Golf Club – 31260 Wakefield Dr. in Novi

Maples Golf Club has been offering 9 holes of golf to people for nearly two decades along 14 Mile Rd. between Grand River and Novi Rd.

The course can be stretched to 3,700 yards from the back tees. It costs $13 for 9 holes of walking and $22 for 18 holes of walking. On weekends, the prices go up to $15 and $25.

Macomb County

Stony Creek Metropark Golf Course – 3300 Main Park Rd. in Shelby Township

Located in the heart of Stony Creek Metropark, the golf course was built in 1979 and includes four sets of tees ranging from 5,000 yards to 7,000 yards.

The course is known for its 17th hole, a par-3 over water that ranges from 98 yards to 163 yards.

Prices for a round range from $14-30 during the weekday to $32-$47 on weekends.

Lake St. Clair Metropark Par-3 course – 31300 Metro Parkway in Harrison Township

The Lake St. Clair Metropark course is a perfect place to work on your short game. It features 18 holes of par-3 golf that totals 1,454 yards from the longest tees.

It even offers club rental in case you forgot yours, and it costs just $8 on weekdays and $10 on weekends.

St. Clair Shores Golf Club – 22185 Masonic Blvd. in St. Clair Shores

Just off I-94 in St. Clair Shores is St. Clair Shores Golf Club, a par-70 course that stretches to just over 6,000 yards from the back tees.

Each of the nine holes feature only one par-5, and it’s a great spot to sneak out for a quick 9 holes about 20 minutes from Downtown Detroit.

Rates for the course start at $22 for non-residents for 9 holes of walking and $30 for 18 holes of walking. Prices go up for golf carts, and on weekends they start at $24 for 9 holes of walking and $34 for 18 holes of walking.

Rammler Golf Club – 38180 Utica Rd. in Sterling Heights

Located in Sterling Heights, Rammler Golf Club has an 18-hole golf course that stretches out to just over 6,300 yards, and also a 9-hole par-3 course for golfers who are starting out or want to try

The cost is $21 for walking 9 holes on weekdays and $27 for 18 holes, and $23 for 9 holes, and $32 for 18 on weekends.

The par-3 course is $10 on weekdays and $12 on weekends, and pull carts are available for rental.

Maple Lane Golf Club – 33203 Maple Lane Dr. in Sterling Heights

Also in Sterling Heights, Maple Lane has 54 holes of golf across three courses, which means you’re bound to get a tee time on the course no matter when.

It cost $22 to walk 9 holes and $27 for 18 holes on weekdays, and twilight rates are different with costs for riding a little more.

Weekends are $30 holes for 9 holes and $39 for 18 holes.
