Wayne County and Detroit
One of two golf courses in the City of Detroit, Rouge Park opened almost 100 years ago and is a great spot for an afternoon round of golf.
The course features 18 holes and is a par-72 topping out at 6,325 yards from the back tees.
You’ll get a challenge, especially on the front 9 holes, with the second hole which includes a downhill blind shot to the green over a creek, and a big uphill par-3 on the fourth hole.
18 holes with a cart are $30 for weekdays or $24 for walking and $40 with a cart on weekends. 9 holes walking during the weekday is $20.
Chandler Park is the other course in the City of Detroit and is located right off of I-94 on the city’s east side.
The wide greens and fairways are great for any golfer, and it tops out at 6,000 yards from the back and just 4,500 from the front tees.
Prices are $30 with a cart on weekdays and $40 for weekends, and walking rates are $25 for 18 holes on weekdays and $35 for weekends.
9 holes walking is $20 on weekdays and $23 with a cart.
The City of Taylor runs two golf courses that are each about 20 minutes from Downtown Detroit and also 20 minutes from the airport.
Both courses were designed by Arthur Hills, and Lakes of Taylor is one of the best public courses in Michigan stretching out to 7,028 yards for a par-72.
Taylor Meadows is also located right off I-94 and is just over 6,200 yards from the back tees at a par-72, including a par-37 on the back 9 which has three par-5s.
Fox Hills Golf – 8768 N. Territorial Rd. in Plymouth
You’re bound to find whatever type of golf you’re looking for at Fox Hills. They have three different courses – Golden Fox, a links-style course designed by Arthur Hills, the Fox Classic Course which has 27 holes, and the Strategic Fox Course, a short par-3 course.
If you want to have some fun, that’s where Strategic Fox comes in. It features 18 holes, all par-3s, with the longest being 195 yards from the back and the shortest being just 91 yards.
Strategic Fox is $15 for 9 holes and $20 for 18 holes every day, while Fox Classic is $20 for 9 holes on weekdays before 3 p.m. and $25 on weekends without a cart. It goes up to $30 and $40 for 18 holes of walking.
Finally, Golden Fox is $35 for 9 holes with a cart on weekdays, $40-$65 for weekdays with a cart, and $49-79 for weekend 18 holes.
This links-style course located along the Detroit River offers 9 holes of golf with tees ranging from 2,455 yards to 3,240 yards.
It’s owned by the City of Wyandotte and offers a pro shop and concession stand with drinks and snacks.
Finally, the Belle Isle Golf Center isn’t specifically a course, but it’s a great place to get out and hit some balls while you’re trying to kill some time.
Located on the northeastern end of the island, the course includes a driving range, a practice area, and a 6-hole short game course where you can work on short wedges, chipping, and putting
It’s $10 to use the short game course, $5 to use the practice area for an hour, and buckets range from $9 for a small to $18 for a large.
