7 Places to Splurge on Detroit Swag

Detroit natives know that there’s nothing quite like slipping on a Detroit­­ T-Shirt or hat before leaving the house in the morning. If you’re in need (or, hey, even want) of new Detroit apparel, head on down to The D and shop at one of these seven places that sell Detroit swag:

1. Detroit Athletic Co.

Whether you’re a Tigers, Lions, Red Wings, or Pistons fan, Detroit Athletic Co. is where you can find an enormous selection of apparel, collectibles and artifacts for all four Detroit teams. Beginning as a peanut stand outside the original Tiger Stadium, the store opened over 30 years ago and is now known as the “Motor City’s premier source for authentic Detroit sports apparel and gifts.”
Location: 1744 Michigan Ave.
Hours: Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Home-game Sundays, 10 a.m. until game begins.

2. Division Street Boutique

Located inside Eastern Market, Division Street Boutique’s mission is to “shine a spotlight on Detroit’s emerging and established artists.” Additionally, it is home to official Detroit Hustles Harder apparel, a popular brand that’s currently celebrating its 10-year anniversary. From apparel to accessories, the Detroit Hustles Harder line has a variety of colors and styles for all ages, including youth.
Location: 1353 Division St.
Hours: Tuesday through Friday, 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

3. Detroit is the New Black

It is true that this 6,000-square-foot store sells products from local brands such as leather goods company Douglas & Co., cosmetics company The Lip Bar and candle company Detroit Rose; nevertheless, its clothing, specifically ones designed by Detroit-natives Tracy Reese and Anna Sui, is well-known in metro Detroit. In addition to retail, Detroit is the New Black’s space also hosts art exhibits, classes, trunk shows, poetry slams, fundraisers, private events and more.
Location: 1426 Woodward Ave.
Hours: Monday through Saturday, 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Sunday, 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

4. Detroit vs. Everybody

Tired of hearing the media constantly put down The D, Detroit native Tommey Walker founded this company as a means of “politely flipping the bird to the rest of the world.” A brand that inspires and promotes unity, Detroit vs. Everybody sells apparel to males and females of all ages.
Location: 400 Monroe St.
Hours: Tuesday, 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday through Saturday, 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.

5. Nike Community Store

Everyone is familiar with the Nike brand and its stores; however, only a few realize that the Nike Community Store in Detroit sells both Nike Detroit Lions and Nike Detroit Tigers apparel. From jerseys to hoodies to pants to hats, this Nike location truly has its football and baseball fans covered. The store also offers general Detroit pride swag too.

Hours: Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

6. Pure Detroit

For 18 years, Pure Detroit has strived to help “create vibrant ground-level retail activity in downtown Detroit” and “provide a touching point for residents and visitors to the city for Detroit’s rich history and contemporary culture.” Starting as just one store in the David Whitney Building, Pure Detroit has grown to exist in five locations throughout The D.

· GM Renaissance Center Location: Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
· Belle Isle Aquarium Location: Friday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

7. Under Armour Brand House

The Under Armour Brand House in Detroit has apparel for both Lions and Tigers supporters of all ages. While you’re shopping, check out the uniquely Detroit artwork throughout the store. Under Armour also includes an entire wall of shoes dedicated to Detroit culture — Coney dog sneakers, anyone?
