Bring out your inner trailblazer on your next trip to metro Detroit! Whether you get out by bike, on foot, or on skates, you can explore the growing network of trails in southeast Michigan. Expand your journey from one coast to another with these metro Detroit trails on the Great Lake-to-Lake Trail Route 1, which stretches from South Haven to Port Huron.

Michigan Air Line Trail

Named after the historic Michigan Air Line Railway, this 6-mile trail stretches across Wixom, Walled Lake, and Commerce. The trail is thoughtfully designed with crossing signals to ensure the safety of pedestrians and bicyclists. 

West Bloomfield Trail

Pass through waterways and share the trail with deer, rabbits, turtles, and waterfowl on this 7-mile stretch. This trail features a wildlife sanctuary, MotorCities Wayside Exhibits, and countless lakes and ponds.

Clinton River Trail

Stroll through downtowns, industrial, residential, and parks on this 16-mile recreational trail. Take in the beautiful scenery from the Clinton River as you walk or ride along this asphalt and crushed stone pathway.

Paint Creek Trail

Paint Creek Trail may be Michigan’s oldest nonmotorized trail but has been beautifully renovated and well-maintained to keep it accessible for over 100,000 annual visitors. Don’t forget your fishing rods as a trip down this trail takes you across a trout-filled creek at multiple different points. 

Polly Ann Trail

This 34-mile trail takes you through numerous towns and different types of terrain. It’s a challenging piece of the Great-Lake-to-Lake trail but the views, wildlife, and sense of accomplishment after a long ride make it worth it.

Macomb Orchard Trail

Named in homage to the apple and peach orchards in southeast Michigan, this 24-mile paved trail has stops along the way for you-pick apples, peaches, strawberries, and cherries. Enjoy the exceptional scenery along the Clinton River, finishing your journey in downtown Richmond.

Stony Creek Metropark Hike-Bike Trail

Enjoy bicycling or inline skating around Stony Creek Lake on the paved 6-mile trail. Stony Creek Metropark features 4,461 acres and surrounds the beautiful 500-acre Stony Creek Lake. The park also includes a nature center, beaches, boat launch facilities, a disc golf course, and an 18-hole regulation golf course.
