Looking for a place where the kids can run wild, cool off, and just be kids? We’ve tested over fifty parks and rounded up five of our favorite Metro Detroit parks that offer much more than just a playground. From splash pads to storybook trails, these spots are perfect for summer adventures and worth adding to your summer bucket list!

Innovation Hills
This Rochester Hills playground is seriously epic! It’s huge with three acres of fun featuring a giant treehouse, climbing areas, sandbox, musical instruments, water features, and even a turf hill for sliding. The massive treehouse with slides will keep your kids busy for hours! There’s a big suspension bridge and plenty of walking trails to explore too.
Pro tip: there’s not a lot of shade, so definitely bring the sunscreen! Wear bright colors as it can get busy at peak times.
Tattan Park
If your kids are into space, they’ll love this 10-acre park. It’s space-themed with rockets, spaceships, and all kinds of unique swings and climbing stuff. There's also a splash pad with a giant dump bucket, helicopter, and slides (fee applies for splash pad).
Pro Tip: there’s a small concession stand for snacks and drinks when you need a break.
Dodge Park
Dodge Park in Sterling Heights is a great all-in-one stop. It has a big playground with climbing structures and swings, a splash pad (fee applies), walking trails, basketball court, and plenty of picnic space. They also host fun seasonal events like concerts, farmers markets, and even ice skating in the winter!
Raintree Park
Raintree Park, located in Troy, is a favorite for younger kids. It has multiple play structures-including one just for toddlers. The park offers barrier-free access and lots of shade. The paved Storybook Trail is stroller-friendly and features a different kids’ book every so often (thanks to the Troy Public Library!). There’s also sand volleyball, disc golf, picnic tables, and a pavilion with picnic tables.
Normandy Oaks
This Royal Oak park has a little bit of everything-a big playground, walking trails, and a free splash pad with over 30 water features and a massive dump bucket. There’s also a pavilion with picnic tables and restrooms.
Pro tip: there’s not much shade, so plan ahead if it’s a hot day!
