Spotlight on Molinari & Goff; TV-7 Newsmakers of the Year
Because of their tenacity, vision, and outstanding achievements, WXYZ proudly selects businessman Claude Molinari and quarterback Jared Goff as Channel 7’s 2024 Newsmakers of the Year. Molinari, President & CEO of Visit Detroit and the Detroit Sports Commission, led the effort with Detroit business and community leaders to secure the NFL Draft. It inspired more than 775-thousand football fans to safely gather in downtown Detroit. The 3-day event had a regional economic impact greater than $213 million.

Charles H. Wright Museum celebrates 60 years with exhibit honoring founder
The world's second largest institution dedicated to the African American experience is celebrating 60 years.
They're inviting the public to view a new exhibit dedicated to its founder, Charles H. Wright. In celebration of that milestone and the man who made the institution a reality, the museum opened the "I Charles H. Wright: My Story" exhibit Friday for the public to experience.

Michigan Science Center gets $2.6M grant to upgrade its planetarium
The Michigan Science Center will upgrade its planetarium theater and other space exhibits thanks to a large grant from the Ballmer Group. According to the science center, the $2.6 million grant from the Ballmer Group will help create a new immersive and interactive learning space at the center. The money will help the planetarium get improved 8K digital projection, state-of-the-art real-time science visualization capabilities and a seamless dome. There will also be new inclined seats and an updated 5.1 audio system will propel guests through hyperspace. The existing structure of the planetarium will remain the same and all upgrades will be interior improvements only.

Spend the night at the top of Michigan Central Station
You will soon be able to stay overnight at one of the most iconic and historic buildings in the state. Bill Ford Jr., executive chairman of Ford, said in a recent interview with CBS News Detroit there will be a hotel at the top of Michigan Central Station. Although he did not say when the hotel will open, Ford Jr. says once the hotel goes up, more businesses and activities will follow.
“We are very close to announcing a hotel, which will be in the top few floors,” Ford Jr. told CBS at the Detroit Auto Show. ”That will also bring a lot of food and beverage to the entire station because that is kind of what’s missing is the food and beverage piece.
City’s EV Charging Infrastructure efforts gets major boost from Biden Administration
The City of Detroit, along with the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG), has been awarded a $15.2 million federal grant by the Biden administration for the “Detroit Charge Ahead: Clean Commute Program," Mayor Mike Duggan announced today. The new grant will support the growing production of electric vehicles in Detroit by allowing the city, as well as nearby suburban communities, to install a network of high-speed EV charging stations.
The grant was announced Friday by the Federal Highway Administration as part of $635 million in grants distributed nationally to install 11,500 EV charging ports and alternative fueling infrastructure across the country. The funding was made possible by President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

The City of Detroit receives millions in federal grants for construction and planning of Joe Louis Greenway
The Biden-Harris Administration has announced that the City of Detroit is a recipient of a $10.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration as part of the Active Transportation Infrastructure Investment Program (ATIIP). This grant will help fund the construction of the Joe Louis Greenway between Woodward Ave. and Dequindre St. in Detroit and Highland Park. Currently, Detroit and Highland Park are divided by an industrial corridor, rail, truck routes and a major freeway. This project would provide a safe east-to-west, non-motorized way to get between the cities.
Highlights of this project include a new bridge over the Canadian National Railroad and transformation of vacant land under I-75 and south of Second Ebenezer Church.
