It’s a time when people come out of their winter hibernation and start spending time outside, and it’s the perfect time to visit metro Detroit. Here are some of the best things to do this April.

Attend a Detroit sporting event
April is a BUSY month for Detroit sports with five different professional teams playing games. Opening Day is a holiday for many in metro Detroit as the Tigers kick off their season at Comerica Park. The Detroit Pistons have already clinched a playoff spot, and the Detroit Red Wings are fighting for a spot. Detroit City FC kicked off its season last month at Keyworth Stadium, and the Michigan Panthers begin their UFL season at Ford Field. Visit the Detroit Zoo
April is a great time to visit the Detroit Zoo as the weather gets warmer and the flowers start blooming. You can check out the zoo’s new male Lion, a new polar bear and a baby gorilla born last year!
There are also two events in April at the Zoo. Greenfest is a two-day eco-friendly festival with a sustainable marketplace, animal engagements, educational activities and more. That takes place April 12-13. Then, Bunnyville will include family-friendly live entertainment, photos with the Easter bunny, a golden egg hunt and more on April 18-19.
See a show at the Fisher Theatre
The Fisher Theatre is packed with shows in April – from musicals to comedy shows and more. Award-winning musical “The Book of Mormon” is performing April 1-6 at the theatre. On April 8, David Sedaris, an award-winning author and humorist, will share “unpublished stories and commentary” along with a book signing. Fresh off her hit performance during the roast of Tom Brady, comedian Nikki Glaser will have two shows on April 11. Finally, “Naruto - The Symphonic Experience” will have a performance on April 27. It’s a live concert bringing anime to life.
Celebrate Record Store Day in Metro Detroit
The popularity of vinyl records continues to grow, and the annual Record Store Day will be celebrated on April 12 this year. In celebration, there are often limited and exclusive Record Store Day releases.
Jack White’s Third Man Records is one of the top record stores in metro Detroit and they also have a vinyl pressing plant in the back that you can tour.

Attend a Concert
Little Caesars Arena and Ford Field are hosting some major concerts in April. Deftones will perform on April 1 at LCA. Katt Williams will have his comedy show on April 12, and then the Tycoon Music Festival featuring Chris Brown, Wiz Khalifa, Gucci Mane, Skilla Baby and Fabolous will be on April 19.
Then, AC/DC will be at Ford Field for their “Power Up Tour” with The Pretty Reckless on April 30.

Greenfield Village reopens
April means the reopening of Greenfield Village in Dearborn, right next to The Henry Ford. With seven historic districts spread out over 80 acres, the historic village officials reopens for the season on April 12.

Attend a show at the Fox Theatre
The historic Fox Theatre is packed with shows in April, a mix of comedy shows, concerts and a musical comedy.
Actors, comedians and friends Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s “Restless Leg Tour” will be at the Fox on April 4-5 as they share stories from their decades-long careers and friendship. The Isley Brothers will be at the Fox on April 12.
On April 18, Alton Brown will bring “a night of culinary spectacle and delight,” and finally “The Addams Family” will perform from April 22-27 at The Fox.
Visit All Things Detroit Day
Eastern Market hosts All Things Detroit the Sunday before Easter every year. It’s a massive event for shoppers and small businesses.
There are more than 200 small business vendors expected to be selling food, clothing and much more in Sheds 3, 4 & 5 at Eastern Market. It takes place Sunday, April 13 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
