All Things Marketplace to host Black Business Month events in February

In February, All Things Marketplace's owner, Jennyfer Crawford-Williams, will host the first-ever All Things Black Business Month at the Corktown-based establishment.

WHAT: Jennyfer Crawford-Williams, owner of Corktown-based All Things Marketplace, will host All Things Black Business Month for the first time this February. Events range from an art exhibition to an informative business panel discussion to weekly pop up shops – all centered on Black-owned businesses.

“I felt that running my own black-owned, women-owned businesses, it’s my duty to not only create a space for others who look like me, but to give them a platform to showcase their brands and services,” Crawford-Williams said. “This is just the beginning, a stepping stone to a larger event that will support black-owned businesses and help push them forward.”

WHEN: February 2023

EVENTS: All Things Black Business Month features the following events:

  • Black Business Chat will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023 and features a panel of business experts discussing both the challenges and keys to growing your own successful business.
  • Dee Hughes Photography will offer a photo session from 1-6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, to small business owners seeking new headshots. The cost is $40 and includes one photo editing session. Registration is required. Visit AllThingsTicketing.com to register.
  • Behind the Red Curtain will be held from 6-9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, 2023. It is an art exhibition inspired by love and meant for adult audiences. Curated by Colibri the Artist, the exhibit is open to 21+ and will feature works by Detroit-based Photographer Jermaine Dalejuan and Boston-based Artist and Painter William Kennedy. PIPED (Power in Poetry Experience of Detroit) will be performing live. This is a free event.

SHOP: All Things Black Business Month will also include Saturday Afternoon Pop-Up Shops from Noon to 5 p.m. featuring the following Detroit-based Black-owned businesses:

  • Feb. 4 – Shop Overstuffed Closet Boutique, a plus-size mobile clothing boutique, with an array of fashionable clothing and accessories.
  • Feb. 11 – Shop and snack on delightful vegan treats made with love by Zella’s Bakery.
  • Feb. 18 – Shop B. Jacklean, who creates handmade, sustainable and fashionable jewelry, clutches and other one-of-a-kind accessories. And don’t miss Cool Kids Look Like Me, a brand that highlights anti-bullying messaging we can appreciate at any age.
  • Feb. 25 – Shop Keith Butler’s Designed by a Black Man brand which features organic, fair trade and luxe fabrics with graphic details in must-have athleisure styles. And stick around to meet Detroit Author Robyn K. Fuller, creator of the Parker & Jhett Rose Chronicles and the book Let’s Be Fair.

WHERE: All Things Marketplace, 1620 Michigan Ave. Ste. 123

WHO: Jennyfer Crawford-Williams, owner of All Things Marketplace, is the organizer of All Things Black Business Month.

HOURS: All Things Marketplace is open for shopping 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday and closed Sunday-Monday during the winter.

RENT IT: All Things Marketplace offers 750 square feet of rental space for businesses to host corporate events, team meetings or present workshops. Local organizations can rent it for community meetings. Business owners can book this space for photo shoots.

Colibri the Artist is curating Behind the Red Curtain, an adults-only art exhibition as part of All Things Black Business Month in February.
Works like this one by Detroit-based Photographer Jermaine Dalejuan will be featured in the art exhibition, Behind the Red Curtain, coming to All Things Marketplace this February.
