Troy, Mich. – Somerset Collection is rolling out the green carpet for the NFL Draft, continuing its long commitment to bringing global brands to Downtown Detroit. On April 17, the Somerset Collection Studio at The Metropolitan Building will open the Luxury Locker Room with more than 25 brands and exceptional experiences for locals and visitors to explore. The Luxury Locker Room is joining The Detroit Shoppe, the non-profit store that celebrates the people, places and products of the city, which is also located at the Somerset Collection Studio in The Metropolitan.
“We make it our mission to support Detroit and all the city does to attract world class events to our region,” said Nathan Forbes, managing partner of The Forbes Company.
The Luxury Locker Room
The Luxury Locker Room will be a one-of-a-kind shopping experience with retail capsules from a selection of the global brands located at Somerset Collection. Local artisans and craftsmen will also be in residence at the Locker Room to engrave fragrance bottles, personalize luggage tags and customize sneakers with graffiti art. Guests can enter to win a Tumi golf bag, a Lily Pulitzer suitcase filled with product, or one of two Cartier sunglasses.
For kids of all ages visiting The Luxury Locker Room, a LEGO bar will be on site where guests can select a kit or draft their favorite team colors into their own custom box.
Each adult who visits the Luxury Locker Room will receive a gift of a designer accessory or home good from one of Somerset Collection’s premier retailers. Guests will also be able to select and model designer shades against a step-and-repeat backdrop, and two lucky winners will take home the sunglasses of their choice.
The Luxury Locker Room is located on the second floor of The Metropolitan Building until April 27, noon to 8 p.m. daily with extended hours on Draft days.
The Detroit Shoppe
The Detroit Shoppe is the one-stop-shop in Downtown, carrying top brands and gems from local institutions and artisans that are authentically Detroit. Fan favorite merchandise includes original works by Epiphany Glass and Second Story Interiors, products by Pingree Detroit, Iconic Detroit and Detroit Rose, and original pieces designed by The Detroit Shoppe. The Detroit Shoppe also has merchandise from institutions including the Detroit Institute of Arts and Pewabic Pottery.
To date, The Detroit Shoppe has donated more than $4 million to 100-plus charities in the city.
When visiting The Detroit Shoppe, guests can enjoy the music and moves of The Supremes (with live impersonators) and will receive a Detroit snack bag with Faygo pop, Bettermade chips and a Coney Island hot dog, as well as a complimentary umbrella.
Somerset Collection’s History of Commitment and Impact in Detroit
Somerset Collection has been celebrating and supporting Detroit for decades, and further elevated its commitment 14 years ago with the launch of The Detroit Shoppe and CityLoft.
In 2010, The Detroit Shoppe opened at Somerset Collection as a billboard for Detroit in Troy, Mich. The non-profit retail concept is part store, part museum and all for charity.
One year later, Somerset Collection debuted CityLoft on Woodward Avenue as a way to catalyze the retail market in Downtown Detroit. Somerset Collection renovated and activated numerous vacant retail spaces around Downtown Detroit for several summer and holiday seasons of CityLoft. This helped create a case for global brands to locate in the city, as we are seeing happen today.
In 2011, Somerset Collection opened a second location for The Detroit Shoppe at Huntington Place, then moved the store to the David Whitney Building for nine years before establishing its permanent location in the Somerset Collection Studio at The Metropolitan Building.
The Somerset Collection Studio opened in 2019 at The Metropolitan Building as a space to provide “retailtainment” in Downtown Detroit. Since opening, the Studio has hosted a variety of activations from pop-up trunk shows and capsule collections for luxury brands to artist installations.
