Downriver Detroit has incredible dining options waiting for you. From authentic Hungarian fare to the tastes of Mexico City, the options are highly varied and sought after. Explore a few of the many fan-favorite restaurants downriver.

1. Bobcat Bonnie’s Wyandotte Location

Bobcat Bonnie’s has locations in Corktown, Ferndale, and Wyandotte. They strive to serve high-quality gastropub fare made from fresh ingredients in an upscale setting. Great food and service can be found here any day of the week but for the weekenders, brunch is a favorite with a build-your-own bloody mary and mimosa bar.

Try This: You can’t go wrong with vegan tacos (one of several vegan menu options) or the Naan Club.

2. The Waterfront

Located on the Detroit River in Wyandotte, The Waterfront offers great views and upscale American fare. You can enjoy everything from burgers to pasta, seafood and more. Other features include live music, a cigar lounge, access to the Motor City Marina and outdoor dining.

Try This: Start with the Lobster Crostini with a blue cream sauce. For your main course, try the Eggplant Parmesan or Chicken Scampi.

3. Catrina’s Taqueria

Mexico City street food makes it’s way to metro Detroit with fresh, healthy and authentic flavors. Dishes are made daily from scratch. Catrina’s is perfect for takeout or for a casual, dine-in atmosphere.

Try This: Tacos are king at Catrina’s Taqueria. Choose from 6 different kinds. The Al Pastor is a favorite with pork, a little onion, cilantro, pineapple and salsa pastor.

4. Savannah’s Restaurant

Savannah’s Restaurant in Trenton is known for upscale dining with features including pasta, seafood and fresh-cut steaks. Located in a beautifully renovated 1897 3-story home that is part of Michigan’s Historical Register.

Try This: For starters, try Goat Cheese Napoleon with Southern chevre, basil pesto, roasted garlic cloves, red peppers, and almonds atop toasted baguettes and drizzled in balsamic vinaigrette. A favorite entree is the Wild Mushroom Le Tour, a creamy porcini and goat cheese risotto that brings portabella, cremini and truffle decadence offset by a balsamic and chive drizzle.

5. Hungarian Rhapsody

Get your fix of traditional Hungarian cuisine at Hungarian Rhapsody. Featuring authentic made-from-scratch dishes from Hungary along with other European and American favorites, Hungarian Rhapsody has been a staple for over 20 years.

Try This: The Chicken Paprikas with Dumplings is a fan favorite. This traditional Hungarian dish is done to perfection at Hungarian Rhapsody. Expect succulent chicken smothered in creamy, warm, paprika-imbued sauce.

Limiting the list to the top five downriver restaurants was a challenge. Other favorites in the area include Truago in Trenton, The Roc in Flat Rock, Coastal Thai in Wyandotte, Glass Onion Griddle in Allen Park, Auburn Café in River Rouge, Big Bear Lodge in Brownstown and Sibley Gardens in Trenton.
