5 Things to Do in Oakland

  1. Tour Meadow Brook Hall on the grounds of Oakland University. You can get a taste of Detroit’s automotive history by touring the historic residence of Matilda Dodge Wilson (widow of auto pioneer John Dodge) and her second husband. The 1,500-acre estate was built in the 1920s and is now open for daily tours.
  2. Shop or nosh at Great Lakes Crossing Outlets. Work up an appetite browsing the 185 retail and outlet stores, then grab a bite to eat at the high-energy Johnny Rockets. If you have more time to spare, catch a movie at AMC Star Great Lakes 25.
  3. Check out Legoland Discovery Center Michigan or the Sea Life Michigan Aquarium. Legoland offers play areas, rides and a brick pool, while the aquarium features more than 5,000 underwater creatures, such as sharks, stingrays, jellyfish and more.SEA LIFE Michigan Aquarium, in Oakland County
  4. Grab dinner. There are countless restaurants in the area. Buddy’s Pizza is a local staple with its Detroit-style square pizzas, or try O’Malley’s Irish Tavern for pub food.
  5. Walk around Downtown Rochester. Plenty of restaurants, shops and art galleries make up the historic district. After dinner, kick back at the cozy Dessert Oasis Coffee Roasters for delicious baked goods, artisan coffee and live music many evenings.
