The Detroit Free Press/Chemical Bank Marathon takes place in Detroit every October. No matter what kind of food you crave after running, Detroit has you covered. Come relax after a long day at one of these top Detroit restaurants and bars.

Detroit Beer Co.

Located on Broadway near Comerica Park, Ford Field and the Detroit Opera House, Detroit Beer Co. is known for its appetizers, salads, pizzas, entrees, sandwiches and, of course, its handcrafted ales and lagers. The atmosphere is chill and dark, so you feel like you can really relax.

PizzaPapalis

PizzaPapalis of Greektown on Monroe Street are the go-to spots for authentic Chicago deep-dish style pizza. Let loose after your run and order pizzas from this Greektown favorite. Normally, you would only be able to eat just one piece, but you will deserve a few after the race you just had.

Vivio’s Food & Spirits

Also known as the place for bloody marys and mussels in the D, Vivio’s Food & Spirits is located in Eastern Market on Market Street and offers sandwiches, burgers and so much more. If your race is done in the morning, than get your fuel in the form of one of their famous bloody marys.

Hudson Cafe

Another great spot to stop in if your race is taking place in the morning, a breakfast from the Hudson Cafe will be the perfect start to your well-deserved post-race food coma. Order one of their massive omelettes, plus an order of gourmet pancakes if you’re feeling crazy.

Texas de Brazil

If you’re looking for an extra punch of protein after your race, Texas de Brazil in Campus Martius Park will serve you some of the best hand carved meat you’ve ever had. And for those that want to be meat free, they have an awesome salad bar.

Shake Shack

After you’ve been training for months and eating as healthfully as you can, you might just want a burger and fries. Shake Shack has quite a few juicy burgers for you to chow down on. Don’t forget an order of cheese fries and one of their Detroit-centric shakes as well.

Also, rumor has it that bananas are a common post-marathon craving, as well; if this healthier choice appeals to you, check out our list of the best smoothies in Detroit for even more places to refuel.
