Unique Mother’s Day Ideas in Detroit
Modified: December 16, 2022 | Story by Kayla Putz | Photos by Vito Palmisano, Bill BowenDon’t get me wrong, Moms love brunch. But if you want to leave the basic itinerary behind and step up your Mother’s Day game, try one of these unique Mother’s Day ideas in Detroit.
A picnic on Belle Isle–the perfect Mother’s Day idea
Spend an afternoon taking in the sights at Belle Isle – there’s nothing quite like it. Pack Detroit themed snacks from Devries & Co., but make sure you stop there on Saturday, they’re not open on Sunday!
Bike the Detroit Riverfront or Dequindre Cut
Cross your fingers for nice weather, grab a ride from Wheelhouse Detroit and bike your way along Detroit’s International Riverfront and/or the Dequindre Cut. Stop in Rivard Plaza for a break and to take in the views of river.

Take Mom out to a Detroit Tigers ball game
Is Mom die-hard Detroit Tigers fan? Take her to see the Tigers as they take on the Seattle Mariners Mother’s Day. If you can’t make the Mother’s Day game, buy her tickets to a future game.
Kayak on Belle Isle in Detroit
Enjoy the great outdoors with a kayaking trip on Belle Isle. You can rent the kayaks from RKC Adventures on the island. Explore the inland lakes and catch some sun while spending some quality time with Mom.

If your Mom is the golfing type, check out metro Detroit’s best golf courses and spend the day on the green.
Be Mom’s shopping buddy
Shop till you drop at Somerset Collection, The Mall at Partridge Creek and Great Lakes Crossing Outlets. Or, enjoy the outdoors while browsing the downtown shops in Birmingham, Royal Oak or Plymouth. Either way, Mom will have her pick of some choice gifts.
Continue the Mother’s Day celebration by taking Mom to Eastern Market Flower Day on May 20th. Growers flock from across the Midwest to display a variety of flowers. This Detroit tradition has been taking place since 1967. Come early if you want to see the best selection.

Detroit gift ideas
Maybe you prefer to buy Mom a little something from Detroit instead. Here are some good options.
Harveys seatbelt bags: These iconic bags are literally made out of seat belts. Snag one from Pure Detroit.
Great Lakes Coffee Roasting Co. coffee: Buy Mom a coffee of the month subscription box. She’ll never go un-caffeinated. (A win-win for the both of you).
Bon Bon Bon: Does Mom have a sweet tooth? Then she’ll love a box of these little handcrafted chocolates. You can send her a box, too. Or if you really want to be extra, sign Mom up for a bon making class.
Rebel Nell jewelry: Pick out Mom a necklace from Rebel Nell. You’ll not only be buying Mom a great statement piece, but you’ll also be supporting disadvantaged women in Detroit.
Garrett Popcorn: Score a medium bag of Garrett Popcorn for yourself when you treat Mom to a petite tin. This Mother’s Day promo will be available at the Garrett Popcorn Shop at Twelve Oaks Mall.
There are plenty more things to do in Detroit. Check them out!
