Downtown Detroit Shopping

Back in the day, Woodward Avenue was lined with specialty shops and stores, anchored by the mega-department store, Hudson’s. Woodward Avenue has been completely transformed in recent years, paying homage to the former shopping district. Big-brands like Nike Community Store, Under Armour Brand House, Moosejaw and Lululemon Athletica have opened their doors along the famous corridor drawing in shoppers.

But don’t let the big names intimidate you; Detroit staples are also sprinkled along Woodward Avenue. Fan favorites include Detroit is the New Black, The Handmade Co. and House of Pure Vin (because we think wine and shopping pair well).

Boutiques in Midtown Detroit

Head north on Woodward Avenue and you’ll find yourself in Midtown – booming with boutiques. Check out Detroit Denim Company and Luxe Redux Bridal.

Shinola’s flagship store also takes up shop in this area, selling their prized watches, leather goods and bikes on every Detroiters wish list. Stroll down Canfield Street to explore Jack White’s Third Man Records – you can actually see the record pressing in action. Across the way, browse knick knacks and Detroit souvenirs at Nest Housewares and City Bird.

Eastern Market Stores

Yes, this Detroit neighborhood is known for its popular farmers market, but the area is also home to several Detroit shopping staples. Take your pick from Detroit swag at Division Street Boutique, home Aptemal Clothing and the famous phrase, “Detroit Hustles Harder” or stroll a few blocks down to “Detroit vs. Everybody” store – either way you’ll be donning your love for The D.

DeVries & Co. is most notably known for its impressive selection of cheeses, it also boasts a third floor of fun gifts and gadgets for all ages. Swing by Savvy Chic Trends for a funky collection of apparel and home goods. From fresh produce to the latest trends, Eastern Market has you covered!

Shopping in Corktown Detroit

Corktown is the spot for vintage finds. Just stop into Mama Coo’s Boutique and you’ll be greeted with a wide selection one-of-a-kind handmade pieces and small home furnishings. Mama Coo’s is more than just a fabulous retail shop, but it also is dedicated to its social mission — sponsoring local events and donating to the Detroit community.

If you’re in the boutique shopping mood, metro Detroit’s quaint downtowns have your fix. Each neighborhood has its own vibe, complete with a variety of retail shops and restaurants. Hop in the car with your entourage and hit these popular downtown shopping spots.

Shopping in Downtown Birmingham

Charming Birmingham offers a variety of antique, eclectic and upscale boutiques. Shop Rococo for casual and fun clothing finds, or opt for Sposa Bella for your evening wear needs. Dolce Moda has a nice selection for the fellas. Don’t forget your four-legged friends – stop in at Teacups & Toys, a fashion boutique for all dogs ranging in size from a Chihuahua to a Great Dane.

Grosse Pointe Shopping

Just a quick drive from downtown Detroit, Grosse Pointe offers a blend of specialty shops and spas. Area favorites include Moosejaw Mountaineering and SHE. Close out a day of shopping by pampering yourself at A.J. Nail Salon & Spa or Chez Lou Lou Blow Dry Bar.

Plymouth Shopping

Greater Novi is home to Plymouth – a quaint downtown with a small-town feel. Don’t let that fool you, Plymouth features unique shops, more than 20 restaurants, sweet shops and bars surrounding Kellogg Park – Plymouth’s very own town square.

Shopping in Downtown Rochester

Downtown Rochester boasts more than 350 shops, salons, restaurants and professional services. It’s perfect for taking a stroll, even during November and December. Around the holidays, Main Street is lit up with holiday lights you have to see to believe during the Big, Bright Light Show.

Royal Oak Shopping

Downtown Royal Oak will feed your funky and fun side. A variety of shops sell vintage finds, antiques and collectibles. Shop on trend styles at Pitaya or Studio Sandra. Shopping definitely works up and appetite and Royal Oak’s restaurant and bar scene do not disappoint.

The Somerset Collection

If you’re in search for your favorite big-name and high-end brands, look no further than metro Detroit. The Somerset Collection in Troy is home to over 180 specialty stores, including high-fashion favorites Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Burberry. If you’re a budget-friendly trendsetter, visit Zara’s first Michigan store, or H&M for fashionable finds. Somerset is also anchored by some department store favorites: Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus.

The Mall at Partridge Creek

The Mall at Partridge Creek in Clinton Township is an open-air mall that welcomes your four-legged friends. It houses brand favorites like Gap and H&M and department stores Nordstrom and Carson’s.

Twelve Oaks Mall

Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi is a shopper’s dream. With nearly 200 stores, services and restaurants, it boasts Nordstrom, Macy’s, Lord & Taylor, JCPenney, Sears and the Lifestyle Cafe Food Court among it’s many upscale offerings.

Michigan Outlet Malls

Great Lakes Crossing Outlet Mall

Alright deal-hunters, this one’s for you. Great Lakes Crossing Outlets is the prime location for outlet shopping in metro Detroit and is the largest outlet center in Michigan. Snag deals at Kate Spade New York Outlet, Banana Republic Factory Store and the Nike Outlet. If you have the kids with you, make a day of it and visit Legoland Discovery Center Michigan or Sea Life Michigan Aquarium.

Detroit’s Avenue of Fashion

The D is known for cars, Coneys and the Motown sound, but you probably didn’t know we’re pretty serious about our fashion. So much so, that an entire area of northwest Detroit is dedicated to fashion —The Historic Avenue of Fashion.

Before malls existed, this area was a destination for luxury shopping, affectionately referred to as “The Avenue of Fashion.” This stretch of Livernois has a rich American jazz legacy and an African-American cultural heritage that has shaped the arts and businesses on the strip.

The area is now home to a variety of retail, restaurants and small businesses. Shop and dine your way up and down Livernois, and be sure to stop at Flagship Boutique, Mitchell’s on The Avenue and 1917 American Bistro.
