Discover the story of American craftsmanship in Handmade: The Crafting of America. From practical beginnings to bold, modern expressions, this exhibition traces the evolution of craft and celebrates human creativity. Each artifact — some shown publicly for the first time — reveals a narrative of resilience, resourcefulness and entrepreneurial spirit.
September 14-20: Where We Belong: The Architecture of Home
Where We Belong: The Architecture of Home is an immersive art, design, and community exhibition exploring home as memory, identity, architecture, inheritance, and belonging.
Presented by Abayomi CDC as part of Detroit Month of Design, the exhibition brings together work by local artists, community stories, interactive installations, recorded testimony, live portraiture, design ephemera, and opportunities for visitors to contribute their own memories of home.
September 18-20: Detroit Legacy Weekend

September 18-19: Banana Ball
Known for reimagining baseball with fast-paced play, crowd participation, and nonstop entertainment, Banana Ball has become one of the most talked-about live sports experiences in the country. You will see historic architecture, innovative arts spaces and even a Smithsonian Affiliate Museum. Small tastes of local food and beverage businesses will also be included along the itinerary.
September 19: Supergeil's Oktoberfest 2026
Supergeil celebrates five years with its annual Oktoberfest on Sept. 19! Join us for a Midwestern-style Oktoberfest yard party featuring German beer, roasted pig sandwiches, live polka from the Kielbasa Kings, games, contests and plenty of lederhosen.
September 20: Detroit in Context Downtown Walking Tour
On this walking tour, an expert guide will provide insights and put things in context as they take you around the downtown and throughout the decades in order to help locals and visitors understand how Detroit’s history shaped where we are today, what’s happening now and how we can become a model for what a 21st century equitable city should look like.
