Grab one of the Best Sandwiches in Detroit
Story by Danielle Alexander
Paul Lynde once said, “Sandwiches are wonderful. You don’t need a spoon or a plate!”
If you’re a sandwich fan (or just really hate doing the dishes), here are some of the best sandwich places and sandwiches in metro Detroit.
The Best Sandwiches in Detroit
Byblos Café & Grill
Whether you're a fan of traditional deli-style sandwiches or prefer your favorite sandwich makings in wraps, Byblos Café & Grill, located on both Palmer and Cass Avenues, has it all. These Mediterranean-style and classic sandwiches are fresh and healthy– and wallet-friendly.
Detroit Institute of Bagels
The bread that holds your sandwich together is important. At Detroit Institute of Bagels in Corktown, your sandwich bread is also your favorite breakfast food. There is a wide variety of both breakfast and lunch bagel sandwiches, but we think the Le Rouge sandwich (goat cheese, bacon, egg, arugula, red onion marmalade) if perfect any time of the day.
Gateway Deli
Located on Fort Street, Gateway Deli is known for its "Out of this World Classic Sandwiches!" From corned beef to vegetarian to balsamic chicken to salmon, Gateway's menu is sure to satisfy all sandwich lovers' palettes.
Mudgie's Deli
Mudgie's Deli is possibly Detroit's favorite spot to grab a sandwich. Located in Corktown, this deli and wine shop also offers fresh soup and salads, pasta salads and other deli favorites. There are a ton of sandwich options, but some favorites include the Mudgie, the Lockwood and the Bella sandwich.
Nathan's Deli
Nathan's Deli is known for its corned beef on rye bread with Swiss cheese, coleslaw and Russian dressing (YUM!). With the choice of rollups, vegetarian, off-the-grill and specialty sandwiches, your chance of disappointment (unlike the portion sizes) is slim.
Russell Street Deli
Even though Russell Street Deli is most popular during Saturdays at Eastern Market, it's open every day of the week. Grab a pastrami or corned beef sandwich, try one of their numerous vegetarian options, and always add a cup of soup on the side. They are the self-proclaimed "Soup Kings" after all. This sandwich spot is a staple at Eastern Market.
Hudson Cafe
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so stop by Hudson Cafe to fill your breakfast sandwich craving. The best part? You can make it your own with plenty of meat and fixings choices. If you're stopping by for lunch, the Downtown Club Sandwich is a must.
