Detroiters and visitors looking for fun, active things to do during the warmer months of July, August and September in all corners of the city – even ones they haven’t yet explored before – should look no further than these outdoor workout classes.
Detroit has plenty going on for everyone during the summer, and a variety of exercise classes hosted by local businesses and organizations are no exception.
From yoga, to Pilates, to Zumba and more, these aren’t meant to be overly challenging classes. Anyone who enjoys an outdoor workout – or wants to give one a try in Detroit – should consider one of these sessions, held on different days of the week in different neighborhoods!
Here are nine opportunities to check out:
Wellness on the Riverfront
Time: Wednesdays at 8 a.m., Thursdays at 6 p.m., and Fridays at 10 a.m.
Location: Wednesdays: Valade Park
Thursdays and Fridays: Milliken State Park, Wetlands Area
Duration: June 10 - September 25
These classes are hosted for free by Urban Solace amid the beautiful views and sounds of the award-winning Detroit Riverwalk. This year marks the studio’s 19th season and is thanks to a partnership with the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy and Priority Health.
Wednesday’s class is Unwind and Align, a “new mindful movement practice,” while Thursday and Friday classes are Gentle Flow Yoga, designed to “improve strength, balance and peace of mind.” Registration is required in advance.
