There is much to be discovered in Detroit's West Village! Surrounded by quiet, tree-lined residential bliss is a slice of paradise reminiscent of The Big Apple, just minus the noise and endless hustle-bustle of New York City. Let’s get to wandering.
Van Dyke Books
Pop on into the magical world of Van Dyke Books, brought to life by two dedicated, local professors who created this haven for bibliophiles and creative minds. As a beacon of cultural revival, this charming used bookstore promises a treasure trove of literary wonders and a hub for communal connection and artistic expression per the store’s website. Special events include Kids Story Time, Book Roast, and West Village Poetry Slam. Have a look around right here.
Eugenie
Shop with purpose at Eugenie, a women’s clothing store that cares to share the spotlight, quite literally, with SPOTLIGHT by eugenie
highlighting the designers featured inside the boutique, as well as community organizations that share similar values, and local artists alike. Eugenie is committed to being down-to-earth with local pop-ups, emerging designer grants, and a welcoming atmosphere in the storefront for resonant retail therapy you can feel good about.
The Red Hook
Stroll on over to the neighborhood coffee shop that reminds you to look up. Incredible, unexpected art is displayed on the ceiling inside this lovely, sun-filled cafe. Also delightful is the array of coffee and tea beverages, along with cookies, cakes, and pastries that will certainly satisfy your sweet tooth. The Red Hook is the place to pop into for a promising pick-me-up.
Sedo’s Ice Cream
I scream, you scream, Sedo’s premium ice cream is the dreamy destination for a cool treat on a hot afternoon in Detroit’s West Village neighborhood. Bring a date, or the kids - anyone who loves ice cream will appreciate the scoop of happiness guaranteed at Sedo’s. Exceptional service and a sweet symphony of flavors await!
Metropolitan Bar + Kitchen
Metropolitan Bar + Kitchen is the crème de la crème of offerings in the West Village. This is the place where you can wine, dine, and enjoy the inviting atmosphere of this unique neighborhood joint that feels like something straight out of every timeless blockbuster from back in the day. It’s got all the feels of a place you wish to waltz into for happy hour for everyone - even those who wish to partake in the casual sophistication of a non-alc sipper with an extensive zero proof menu - “probably the largest in the city” as stated on the website. I have to recommend the Roasted Carrot and Hummus, as it is one of Metropolitan’s most popular dishes - a delectable and satisfying shareable worth ordering every time. Plenty more to be discovered inside!
This is just a taste of Detroit's West Village on the east side of the city. Wander through to see the many artful gems on offer awaiting your visit. Enjoy this sweet slice of the City of Detroit!
