Discovering the Best Detroit Metro Beaches

Unveiling a lesser-known facet of the city, Detroit's metro area beaches offer a refreshing retreat amidst the city hustle and bustle. From the serene Lake St. Clair shores to the scenic Belle Isle sands, these waterfront destinations provide a unique blend of relaxation and city energy.
Belle Isle Beach
Cool off at the designated swimming beach on Belle Isle. The best part about this beach is you can spend your whole day on the island visiting one of many attractions, including the Dossin Great Lakes Museum, Belle Isle Aquarium, or Belle Isle Nature Center. The beach is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Bring some sand toys or a picnic blanket to enjoy the pristine shoreline.

Entrance Fees: To enter the park, you will need a Recreation passport, which is $13 for automobiles or $7 for motorcycles. Entry is free for those who enter the island by foot or bike. A one-day pass for non-residents may be purchased for $9.
Lake St Clair Metropark
Lake St Clair Metropark, often referred to as “Metro Beach,” will keep you cool on a hot day! The park features a beach, splash pad, adventure golf course, boat rental, and an Olympic-sized pool. You could spend your entire day here and still not run out of activities to do. The pool features two water slides, an inflatable obstacle course, and climbing walls. The beach also offers a concession stand, beach shop, and playground.

Entrance Fees: Resident pricing is available for patrons living in Livingston, Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw and Wayne County, an annual pass is $40 for residents or $45 for non-residents. Day passes are available for $10 per vehicle. Discounted senior is $24 for resident or $29 for non-resident and disabled veterans are free with state-issued license plate.
Spencer Park
Spencer Beach is a hidden gem, located in Rochester Hills. The beach features a shallow wading beach area for younger children as well as a more traditional beach area with deeper water. You will find a large playground for the little ones. Paddle boat and canoe rental area also available seasonally, making it appealing for all ages. Bring some food to throw on one of the charcoal grills and have a picnic. The park also features extensive trails. There is a small concession area and bathrooms available.

Entrance Fees: Residents of Rochester Hills may purchase a pass for $35 annually, non-residents are $70 for an annual pass. On weekends and holidays, a day pass may be purchased for $8 for Rochester Hills residents, or $15 or non-residents. Day passes are $5 for residents, or $10 for non-residents on weekdays.
Stoney Creek Metro Beach
Spend the day at Stoney Creek Metro Beach where you can enjoy activities, such as swimming, boating, fishing, hiking, or biking. Stoney Creek boasts several beaches where you can enjoy the sun and sand. One of the most popular beaches is Eastwood Beach, which features a huge playground and massive quadzilla 50-foot-tall, 230-foot-long water slide. The beach also offers a sandy volleyball area. There is plenty of grass to set up a picnic. In addition to the fun on the lake, the beach offers a concession area, bathrooms, and small shop where you can purchase inflatables.

Walter and Mary Burke Park
This beautiful waterfront park features a sandy beach, playground area, picnic tables, and boardwalk. Cool off with scenic views of Anchor Bay. You may also fish in designated areas. The location makes this beach ideal, this is right across from all of the little shops and restaurants in the heart of New Baltimore, go ahead and explore and make a day trip out of this!
