Best Spots for Fall Colors in Wayne County

Fall foliage in Michigan is one of the best sites in the country. When the green leaves turn yellow, orange, red and purple, you know fall is here. People will take to the roads and the trails to see some beautiful fall colors in Wayne County, and here’s where you can go to find fall colors.
Huron-Clinton Metroparks
There are four Huron-Clinton Metroparks in Wayne County – Lower Huron, Oakwoods, Willow and Lake Erie. The parks offer miles of trails for hiking and a chance to go in some forests to see the fall colors from within.
Maybury State Park in Northville
Maybury State Park is nearly 1,000 acres with different terrain and a mature forest, meaning the colors are beautiful once they start changing. You’ll likely see people taking pictures throughout the park as the colors are some of the best in metro Detroit.
Crosswinds Marsh in New Boston
Located in the southern part of Wayne County, Crosswinds Marsh is a wetland habitat surrounded by trees, so you’ll get great shots of colors reflecting off the water. There are 240 species of bird and 40 species of mammals identified at the marsh, according to the county.
Elizabeth Park in Trenton
It’s one mile to walk around Elizabeth Park in Trenton, and the trees will start turning in early October, giving great color along the Detroit River. Be sure to get some pictures while standing on their cool bridges.
Edsel & Eleanor Ford House in Grosse Pointe Shores
The beautiful mansion along the shores of Lake St. Clair has 87 acres of gardens to visit, and the fall colors add a beautiful backdrop to the mansion and rest of the grounds.
Fair Lane in Dearborn
The former home of Henry and Clara Ford, the mansion is off the river and surrounded by tall trees that make for a stunning view during the peak fall.
Hines Drive
Spanning 17 miles through several Wayne County cities, Hines Drive has parks, nature trails and plenty of places to see fall colors.
Dequindre Cut in Detroit
The Dequindre Cut runs for about a mile and a half in Detroit from the Riverfront to Mack Ave. The former rail line is surrounded by trees which turn a beautiful mix of colors in early October.
Belle Isle
The largest island state park, Belle Isle has plenty of places to explore and see incredible colors with the city skyline as a backdrop.
