Say "Cheers!" with these 5 Detroit Area Craft Distilleries

Story by Amelia Ritter

There are plenty of opportunities to sample the best of the Detroit area’s craft beverages on the Detroit Brew Trail, but all sorts of craft distilleries have been popping up around the city

When planning your next visit to Detroit, be sure to schedule ample time to sample and tour these 5 craft distilleries.

Detroit City Distillery

The Whiskey Factory is home to Detroit City Distillery. They specialize in creating small-batch artisanal whiskey, gin, and vodka using the finest local ingredients sourced directly from local farms. Eight childhood friends came together to create a uniquely Detroit product that captures the city's entrepreneurial spirit.

In addition to tastings and tours, The Whiskey Factory is a premier venue space available for weddings, corporate events, and more.

Two James Spirits

While you can purchase Two James Spirits like Doctor Bird Rum, Grass Widow Bourbon, and Catcher's Rye at stores and bars in almost a dozen states across the country, the true Two James Spirits experience comes from a visit to their Corktown location. Come sample the finest spirits at the first licensed distillery in Detroit since prohibition.

Motor City Gas

Motor City Gas is a family-owned farm distillery that handcrafts a variety of small-batch bourbon whiskey. You can choose from up to 20 different style single barrel whiskies to sample during a visit to their distillery tasting room in downtown Royal Oak. Or, take your pick of a craft cocktail from a menu that changes weekly, featuring fresh and local ingredients.

Valentine Distilling Co. and Cocktail Lounge

Visit one of the nation's first craft distilleries to sample award-winning bourbon, gin, and vodka. Enjoy spirits like Mayor Pingree Bourbon and Valentine Vodka and see why founder, Rifino Valentine, says "I’m proud that we’re continuing in the tradition of quality Detroit manufacturing, and that we’re able to produce spirits that rival anything around the world.” Visitors can book a tour of the distillery or enjoy libations at the cocktail lounge.
