Stay close and check out these hotel bars in Detroit
Story by Max White
There are so many great places to enjoy in Detroit for food, drinks, fun, and more, but as we all know when traveling, sometimes it’s easy just to stay in the hotel and grab a close drink.
Thankfully, the Motor City is filled with incredible hotels, and with that comes some really great bars. So, after a night out in the city, if you want to have a drink close to your room to close out the night, here are some places to do so.
Inside an old Detroit Fire Department Firehouse, The Apparatus Room offers incredible cocktails that have been inspired by their accomplished mixologists.
According to their website, the cocktail program is “classically focused with an inspiration drawn from the history of the building and the city itself.”
Their drink menu is very large with different wines, whiskeys, tequila, and more. Plus, they have a list of foundation cocktails which include an old-fashioned-type drink, the “Elderflowerade,” an espresso martini, and more.
There are great views at The Monarch Club, a rooftop bar located at the top of the Element Hotel in the heart of Downtown Detroit.
The space has indoor and outdoor tables that are available year-round, so take in the sights while sipping on a delicious drink.
They have exclusive cocktails like “Naked and Afraid” with Mezcal, Aperol, serrano peppers, and more, or the “Absinthe Minded” which includes gin, Lillet Blac, curacao, and lemon.

Evening Bar at The Shinola Hotel
A speakeasy in the basement of The Shinola Hotel, you enter Evening Bar through Parker’s Alley, which is behind the hotel off Woodward Ave.
They have a list of non-alcoholic spirits for those who want to stay dry, or you can try some of their highball or session cocktails.
One that screams Michigan is the “State Fair,” which includes Michigan tart cherry bourbon and creamy lemonade, or the “Life Coach” which includes cucumber-infused mezcal, Aperol, vermouth blanc, and bitters.
On the bottom floor of the historic David Whitney Building, the W XYZ Bar is a great place to enjoy a drink in the heart of the city. It’s just a few blocks from Comerica Park, Ford Field and Little Caesars Arena, so you’ll be close to everything.
The colorful vibe inside will have you enjoying yourself while drinking a beer or sipping a glass of wine.
You likely haven’t seen a bar like Candy Bar, inside the boutique Siren Hotel along Broadway in Detroit. The décor is all pink inside, and you’ll feel like you’re in a giant ball of cotton candy.
It has a variety of cocktails you can try like the “Morning Dew” with botanist gin, Cocchi rosa, HoneyDew, mint, and lime, or the “Oaxacan Sunrise” with tequila, mezcal, watermelon, lemon, and cilantro.
