Hudson Cafe
Located across Woodward Avenue from the former flagship Hudson’s store – and the future Hudson’s Detroit development – Hudson Café piles smoked ham, turkey and Swiss on top of romaine lettuce and finishes it off with gherkin pickles and green olives. The breakfast and lunch spot also has locations in Northville and Troy.
The Continental at Ford House
The visitor center at the historic Edsel & Eleanor Ford House in Grosse Pointe Shores is home to the Continental restaurant, which offers a unique twist on American food – as well as several menu items that pay homage to Hudson’s. The Maurice salad is served with house-made popovers, another beloved item from the Hudson’s menu.
7 Greens Detroit Salad Company
Located downtown, this quick-serve restaurant offers a Maurice salad that is a bit different from the original. Romaine lettuce is accompanied by baby spinach, and chicken and bacon take the place of the turkey and ham.
Side Street Diner
This small venue in Grosse Pointe calls itself a “finer diner,” and it’s easy to see why. A Maurice salad –– served the traditional way with meats, cheese, green olives and gherkin pickles – is among the eatery’s hot and cold plates that include meatloaf, chicken Waldorf salad and a BYOB burger.

Birmingham’s Whistle Stop Diner offers the J.L. Hudson’s Maurice – chopped lettuce tossed with Swiss cheese, ham, turkey and tomatoes. The salad is topped with pickles and black olives.

This Bloomfield Hills eatery serves a Maurice salad the traditional way with iceberg lettuce, ham, turkey, Swiss, olives, eggs and pickles. Enjoy it as a meal, or try it as a side while sampling some of the other appetizers on the menu including Cajun wings, crispy Asian ribs or crab cake.
Shores Inn
Shores Inn in St. Clair Shores has a classic Maurice that is tossed in a homemade Maurice dressing. Enjoy it on its own, or share it as an appetizer to accompany one of the restaurant’s Detroit-style pizzas.
ZZ Market & Grill
On the go? ZZ’s Market & Grill, a carry-out market located just north of the city’s Foxtown area, has a Maurice salad with traditional slices of julienne ham and turkey, Swiss cheese, green olives and sweet pickles.
Deadwood Bar and Grill
This Northville restaurant serves a classic Maurice salad along with not-as-classic appetizers and entrees that include duck tenders, Beyond burgers, and buffalo meatloaf.
Detroit Beer Company
Detroit Beer Company adds cherry peppers to an otherwise classic Maurice salad. The venue, a longtime part of downtown, serves traditional bar fare as well as other favorites such as beer cheese soup, smoked Michigan whitefish dip and potato and cheese pierogi.
Kruse and Muir on Woodward
Among the salads at this Royal Oak restaurant is a classic Maurice. Enjoy it with a cup of French onion soup or grilled garden gazpacho. The restaurant’s menu changes seasonally.
Stage Deli
Stage Deli in West Bloomfield offers classic Jewish deli foods as well as a variety of other favorites – including a Maurice salad served the traditional way. The restaurant has a wide variety of other salads such as kale, Cobb and chicken shawarma.
