Popping the question? These are the best spots for a proposal in Detroit

Story by Max White

Planning a proposal isn’t the easiest thing in the world, but being in Detroit and the metro area makes it just a little easier because of the many beautiful spots where you can drop to one knee and ask the person you love to marry you.

If you’re planning on popping the question any time soon, we have a list of the top 10 best spots for a proposal in metro Detroit.

1 – Sunset Point at Belle Isle

One of the most-photographed spots in Detroit is at Sunset Point on Belle Isle. Located on the southwest tip of the island, the spot overlooks the downtown Detroit skyline and the Detroit River with the perfect sunset. Time it right, and you’ll have incredible photos for your proposal. (IG #SunsetPointeBelleIsle)

2 – Campus Martius Park

The heart of downtown Detroit is Campus Martius Park. If you’re looking for great pictures and a way to easily hide family members and friends to surprise your future husband or wife, this is the spot. They can quickly get to you and blend in among the people for a nice proposal. Plus, if you do it around the holidays, there’s a big, beautiful Christmas tree. (IG #CampusMartiusDowntownDetroit)

3 – Cranbrook House & Gardens

Cranbrook House & Gardens

Located in Bloomfield Hills, Cranbrook House & Gardens offers a beautiful and colorful spot for a proposal in the warm weather. It has more than 40 acres of gardens with fountains, lakes, streams, and of course, flowers.

4 – Detroit Institute of Arts

Located right off of Woodward Ave. in Midtown Detroit, the DIA is a great place for an indoor or outdoor proposal. Outside, the beautiful white marble design and fountains offer a great spot to drop to one knee, and inside, the Detroit Industry Murals by Diego Rivera is a massive opportunity. (IG @diadetroit)

5 – Edsel & Eleanor Ford House

In Grosse Pointe Shores, the former home of Henry Ford’s son and his wife is a great spot for a proposal or wedding and engagement photos. There is a rose garden, flower lane, a lagoon and it’s located along Lake St. Clair for some waterfront views. (IG @eefordhouse)

6 – Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory

Another spot on Belle Isle, the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory is a beautiful spot with outdoor gardens and an exotic collection of plans on the inside. You do have to contact them ahead of time if you want to arrange a professional photographer, but the memories from a proposal here will last a life time. (IG @annascrippswconservatory)

7 – Detroit Riverwalk

Spanning several miles along the Detroit River, the Detroit Riverwalk has several different places to drop to one knee. You can try one of the several parks along the river, or right in front of Detroit’s iconic building, the GM Renaissance Center. No matter what, the Riverwalk leaves you plenty of options for a proposal. (IG @detroitriverfront)

The Belt Alley

8 – Parker’s Alley or The Belt

Two Detroit alleys provide great spots for a proposal. Parker’s Alley, located near the Shinola Hotel, is a brick-lined alleyway that provides a simple yet beautiful place for a proposal. The Belt, also in downtown Detroit, has great artwork and colors, making it a picturesque site to pop the question. (IG #theBelt) (IG #ParkersAlley)

9 – Meadowbrook Hall

Meadowbrook Hall in Rochester is a mansion that was built nearly 100 years ago by Matilda Dodge Wilson, the widow of John Dodge. It’s more than 1,500 acres and has gardens and several residences, leaving you a variety of places for a proposal. (IG @meadowbrookhallandgardens)

10 – Inside the Fisher Building

The Fisher Building is often named the most beautiful building in Detroit. Designed by Albert Kahn, the art deco building is often called “Detroit’s largest art object.” The center of the ground floor will be a great spot for any architecture lover to propose. (IG @fisherbldgdet)
