13 Places to Shop in and around Eastern Market

Story by Danielle Alexander | Photos by Savvy Chic Trends, Orleans + Winder, Detroit Mercantile Co.

Eastern Market is known as the largest historic market in the country that celebrates “the freshest, most wholesome fruits, vegetables, specialty foods, art and music, all undeniably Detroit.”

However, many do not realize the retail options that exist both in and around its 4.5 acres. Several stores and boutiques have opened up in the past few years, making Eastern Market your one-stop shopping destination

Retail Inside Eastern Market

1. 3 Dogs 1 Cat

3 Dogs 1 Cat is an urban pet shop for your four-legged friends, and the people that love them. The store offers trendy, stylish and quality merchandise such as Detroit Manufacturing collars and leashes.

2. Division Street Boutique (Detroit Hustles Harder)

Division Street Boutique serves as a home base for Aptemal Clothing and is known for providing customers with the "best local products and service" at the "lowest prices possible."

3. SMPLFD

Located on the up-and-coming Gratiot Avenue just across the bridge from Eastern Market, SMPLFD sells trendy street wear, t-shirts, sweats and more.

4. Pure Shea Store

Pure Shea Store is a must-visit for those in need of natural Shea Butter soaps and other bath products at affordable prices. Shea Butter is known as a natural healing product, one that is said to be great for cuts, bruises and burns.

5. People's Records

Also located on Gratiot, People's Records sells used and brand new vinyl records. Visit for your favorite soul, Motown, jazz, rock records and more.

9. Devries & Co 1887

10. Henry the Hatter

After Henry the Hatter was pushed out of downtown due to rising rent prices, the oldest hat shop in the city found a home down an alleyway in Eastern Market. Former presidents have bought hats from here.
